WW11 must visit... Factual, gorgeous, and truthful with personal touch. Humbling.

Very moving, very interesting, very tastefully done. This is intimate but informative nod to everyone involved in operation 'deadstick'. All of us loved our visit to this museum a must visit for any ww11 enthusiast. Seeing one of the original gliders, was just amazing. Staff were lovely. Do not miss this classis gem.

Beautifull museum with lots of things on display, like parts of a wooden glider-plane and the original bridge. The importance of the Pegaus bridge is well explained.
Worth a visit!

Very informative museum about the gliders that secured Pegasus bridge ahead of the D-day. Do not miss the movie that will give you both the big picture as well as some small moving stories. As with most D-Day museum you will not leave untouched of the achievement and the sacrifice of these men.

Museum is full of information, including some very personal information. You get a good feel for what happened, even my 6 year old took it all in. Seeing the replica Horsa Glider was special.

Just off the main road before the bridge beside the river. Amazing place. Many things to see and read. Pictures of the bridge and how it was made. Military display equipment and artillery. Benches to sit outside while viewing everything. Big Building and gift shop all very clean. Staff very friendly. Was there at 75 D Day celebrations very busy but everyone was in good spirits. Grounds full and in good condition and clean. All on one floor. Museum with English displays is a plus. Then off to the bridge and monuments surrounding the area.

Fascinating museum in the first town in France to be liberated
Feb 2020
The museum tells the story of the capture of Pegasus Bridge by British Glider-borne troops in June 1944. In advance of the D Day landings it was vital that the bridge at Benouville remained intact to ensure the advance of allied troops and so troops were sent by glider during the night to capture the bridge and prevent German troops from blowing it up. They then had to prevent any German counter-attack. The mission was a sucess and hence Benouville became the first town on the French mainland to be liberated.
It's a wonderful story and the museum tells it well with displays in French and English.
There are also memorials to Major John Howard and his men outside the museum at the spot where the gliders were deliberately crash-landed. The old bridge has now been replaced but the original once can be seen in the grounds of the museum.
