The pavilion is located in the Kerta Gosa building complex, a former Semarapura Palace, and is built on an island in the centre of a pond. The open building once served as the highest court of justice during the Klungkung kingdom, the intricate ceiling painting illustrates a Bali's cultural heritage and judicial history. The complex dates to 1686 and the pavilion from c1700 during the reign of King Dewa Agung Jambe.

Remains of the royal palace. The royal family perished after the Dutch invasion in the early 20th century. What remains is the courtroom, where paintings on the roof indicate penalties for various offenses, the palace on the water and the royal gate. There is also a small museum on the premises.

Kertha Gosa means the place where the king meets with his ministries to discuss questions of justice.it was once a court of law.The ceiling of Kertha Gosa is painted in a traditional Balinese style that resembles wayang. These paintings used a technique described as Kamasan style. besides bale kertha gosa, there is a Bale Kambang ‘floating' hall that's surrounded by a moat.these two bale forms part of the Puri Semarapura royal palace complex .i visited this place twice, the first time was many years ago.last month when i revisited Bali,i came here again.i took many photos here and admired its painting and building structure.may come again if have chance.

So unfortunately I can only advise against a visit. We hadn't expected a spectacular facility, but our already low expectations were still undercut. We have to assume that the locals are already aware of this, as they are now forcing tourists to pay the completely overpriced price in a very deceitful way. Unfortunately, there is hardly anything you can do about this scam. By the time you go there, it's already too late. There are no signs at the entrance or anywhere in the facility that a ticket is required or how much it should cost. We were directed to the entrance by a security person (we thought it was a helpful policeman) who stood at the entrance with no controls or signs. After what felt like 3-5 minutes we had seen everything and even the museum was closed. When we wanted to leave again, quite unimpressed, the same "policeman" told us that we now had to buy a ticket as we had entered the complex. The ticket counter with the prices is hidden on the other side of the street next to the large monument (looks a bit like a big penis). The ticket that we are now forced to buy costs 50,000 per person, which is completely excessive. Of course, there is no discount for the closed museum either. Unfortunately, it all seems as if they are trying to get the maximum out of every tourist in view of the rather moderate tourist numbers for this "attraction". It would be fairer to make it clear right at the entrance that it costs money and how much it costs. Then everyone could decide for themselves whether it's worth it. We liked the textilemarket on the opposite side much better and it didn't cost any entrance fee ;-)

I made the mistake of not buying a ticket from the main office, the "guide" said that I could just pay him, he was impatient and rude and argued afterwards about the fee we had agreed on.
Buy a ticket and ignore the guides and wander around yourself. Kerta gosa and the floating pavilion is beautiful, this was the only negative experience we had, while in bali

This "Hall of Justice" as it was know was great. The architecture and surrounding gardens are beautiful. This was a nice stop on our tour. The thrones are on display in one of the small pagodas off to the side. The inside of the pagoda roof has outstanding murals covering the entire structure.

This was once the judicial center for Balinese hierarchy. Center of Klungkung offers a nice gardens with a moat surrounding the main hall with water lilies and flowers abound. Leisurely walk around and snap a few photos. Best part it’s totally free.

That's how I always introduce this palace to my guest's. I always stop here before having coffee at Klungkubg market and heading to Besakih temple.
