Beautiful and lush
Jun 2018 • Friends
The park is beautiful, lush and brimming with water buffalo that you can kayak out to and watch them graze and enjoy the water. A few floating restaurants and even some floating accomodations for an overnight stay. Very clean water in comparison to other waterways in Thailand in general.

Great time in isolation
Mar 2018 • Friends
This places was so relaxing and peaceful as well as beautiful. No wifi all you have its the lake. It was great to kayak on it and its the perfect temperature. I stayed two nights through the Libra guest house who also own the lake cabins. They were confortable and had the basics. I would definitely stay again and would recommend.

Ps: I stayed here while on a 40 days backpacking trip through Laos, Thailand and Cambodia. My standards were much lower for this trip, as it is SE Asia.

Note that not all the floating bungalows are the same. Don't settle if you don't like the first place you are taken by

A short get away from urban Chiang Mai
May 2016 • Solo
I personally find the place desserted and not too ready to tourism yet. Once you arrived at the national park. You need to take a long tail boat to the floating restaurant. The return ride is 500b. We ordered three types of dishes for lunch (another 500b). The ride is paid together with lunch. Please check your lunch bill carefully. Not much activities unless you dont mind spending your day doing nothing at all like a sloth far away from urban Chiang Mai. Though I find the river fishes are extremely fresh and delicious.

Not nice at all
May 2016
One more of those national parks in Thailand where there is no information available, neither online nor in the park, the campsite is really ugly and you don't want to really stay there and finally the park doesn't seem nice at all. Only thing they are knowledgeable about and are trying to sell you by reprating it 10 times is an overpriced boat for 600 THB accross the lake, which doesn't add much to the experience. A complete dissappointment, don't bother going there, there are nicer national parks.

natural forest and teak area on the maeng ngat dam
Sep 2015 • Friends
for a foreigner very expensive. 400 baht per person. I lived in mae taeng for 10 years before I visited there. entrance right at dam where there is a great restaurant. but you need a car go go in or bike. there is really not that much to see. very remote and totally virgin forest area. but in spring lots of orchids and yes there are lots of birds. so as a nature reserve it is nice

Fun for Day on the Lake
Feb 2016 • Solo
My home is very near this lake and I fish there at least one time a week. I have a small bass boat and fish early then often have lunch at one of the many houseboats on the lake. When in rainy season the water levels allow beautiful sightseeing trips the length of Mae Ngat lake. A really fun and exciting place for all the family to visit and great for the budget minded folks...

Great views all around the lake
Jan 2016 • Friends
The lake is the attraction you must hire a boat and go over the lake to get the full experience. The rainy season would be better for vegetation and more green. In January very dry and autumnal.

Day on the lake
Jan 2016 • Family
Great fun sidebar trip from Chiang Mai, drive to the dam, park the car, hop on a dragon tail boat for a short ride across the lake to a floating restaurant, eat drink and hop on the boat back. Restaurant was well priced considering we were such a captive audience but we were caught a little with the 600Bt boat fee which I think my wife had thought would be included, there was also a park entry charge where the mandatory discriminatory felang pricing was being employed. All said though, not that bad price wise and really relaxing, not a must do if it's your first trip to the area but if you are doing a repeat visit and are looking for a different angle do consider it, very authentic, relaxing and a lot of fun. Please note there are several different restaurants so some will be better than others.

As an aside at the car park there is a truly fabulous cafe where I had a tremendous Iced Latte.
