The Shrine of the Nativity of Mary is majestic on the outside and magnificent on the inside.
At the center of the Sanctuary, there is the pylon with the image of the Madonna and Child.
Originally the Sanctuary was a modest chapel with this equally modest pylon, but following the interest of Duke Carlo Emanuele 1’ of Savoy, in 1596 work began on the transformation into this majestic Sanctuary, works that ended only at the beginning of the 20th century with the definitive construction of the current bell towers.
The fundamental feature of this Sanctuary consists of the beautiful elliptical dome that turns out to be the largest in the world.
It is definitely worth a visit.

Majestic sanctuary from 1600 located 6 km from Mondovì, it is an important place of pilgrimage. The beautiful and magnificent elliptical dome, which boasts the distinction of being the largest in the world, is the fifth largest building, after St. Peter's in the Vatican, the Pantheon in Rome, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence and the dome of Gol Gumbaz in India. Well worth a visit.

We did the complete tour of the dome and were astounded by the rich history of the project and construction of this unique work of art. Beautifully decorated inside, but for us the most breathtaking surprise was the incredible abitlity of its architects and engineers to calculate measurements, shapes, materials, to the limit of feasibility, thus creating something that captures the eye and the imagination of us, humble admirers. We were also impressed by the competence and preparation of our young guides, who made us savour the experience to the fullest.

You have to visit the largest elliptical dome in the world! And you have to do the organised climb up into the very top, smallest dome. Glorious!

The interior of this church is vast and the decoration is a single unified theme that covers the whole, the style is not one I find sympathetic but there is no denying the scale of the achievement, very well worth a visit

Well worth the trip from Mondovi. The tour to the very top is the highlight and on a beautiful day the views were superb. Expertly guided with great audio recording during the trip. Would expect it to be busy at peak times but we just turned up to find it was the last day of tours. Very lucky. The Santuario is amazing and being so close to everything is great albeit a little scary I'm sure if you don't like heights. The helmet and climbing gear adds to the adventure.

Well worth the drive from Alba. You must do the Magnificent tour to the top to see the trompé l'œil.
