When you drive up the little road from to the pass, you have no idea of the view that awaits you: Geneva, the lake and Mont Blanc!

You get an even better by taking the cable car up the mountain (or hike).

Nice and scenic road to get there. Beautiful views on the Alps and of course the Mont Blanc on the road and even nicer when taking the telecabin to the top. In winter, excellent family skiing. These mid altitudes do not get much snow and do a great job grooming it. Even this year with ample snowfalls they continue take care of the pistes and it is more than enjoyable, no need to go to the Alps! In summer, trekking, sight seeing, mountain biking, summer sledding, everything is there for your family. Note: On some week-ends it can be crowded and access to the car park can be slow, be patient and enjoy the landscapes!

Winter hikes! This is an amazing place to snowshoe all through the winter. The skiing here is good too, when the snow is deep enough. We did a nighttime hike recently that was super fun.

What used to be a 6 km roundtrip hike up to Petit Montrond (from Col de la Faucille parking – 1320 m – to Petit Montrond – 1540m) has been reduced to about 4 km, with nearly 400 newly installed steps (each way) and also nicely groomed/pebbled trails – fortunately the 400 steps do not occur all at once. If you have not taken this hike recently you will be pleasantly surprised at how much it has been enhanced, and particularly the decision to divide the route to the top into one for hikers and one for mountain bikes and other vehicles. The hiking trail starts just after the luge - it veers to the left off into the woods, on a white-pebbled trail that is not marked except for a sign (that you see only by looking back!) that warns descending hikers that this part of the route is also for bikes. You will appreciate the difference during all but this small section of the route - no need to jump to the side when one of the bikes heads your way or comes up from behind. There are several observation points with benches/tables on the way up, just off the trail. You can still take the original route (paved road), and, if you have a stroller, or are concerned about climbing so many steps, it might be the better option. You still get to enjoy the fresh air, and you still get to the top for those exquisite views of both the Jura and the Alps. It should take about an hour up and about 30 minutes back on the trail, but you will probably want stay a while at the top – worth every step.

We came across this place by chance on our way back from CERN. There’s so much to see and do, including an excellent luge.

A great spot to visit on a fine day. At the top of the col you can see Mont Blanc and across Switzerland if it is clear. Take the telecabine to the top of the mountain where it can be cool even on a hot day. In summer you can walk, in winter ski. There are activities for all ages, the luge is setup for summer use following a track down the mountain side. There is a playground for youngsters and a zipwire for the more mature?
Parking is free and there are lots of places to get food and drinks though
I suspect the shopping is a little pricey.

This is a walk up a narrow paved road linking Col de la Faucille to the Montrond cable car (top) station and Le Grand Tetras restaurant/bar - no cars to worry about but a decent surface for bicycles/strollers/walking shoes. There are several more traditional paths/trails that branch off of this walk, for which hiking shoes would be needed, and you can also walk directly up the ski slopes (off-season and when snowless), but rather steep and potentially slippery depending on the weather. From the top, impressive views of Mt Blanc range, Geneva area, and Lac Leman. The cable car is also available for 7 euros, but this walk really is so simple on a nice day - why not save the 7 euros for a drink on the restaurant terrace?

My review is for the scenic drive between Gex and Saint-Claude, on the RN5 which winds up and down the mountain side. Heading from Ferney Voltaire, the road gradually ascends and then sharply rises, passing through some switch backs. There is an increasingly panoramic view from various viewpoints, some with limited parking spaces. At the very crest of the range (the actual col itself), there is a hotel, small cafe and a view across to the Jura side. I wasn't aware, but a bit off the main road, there apparently is a ski-lift which can bring you to the crest of the mountain for panoramic views. Will try this for next time.

Took the bubble up to the restaurant at the top. No snow here yet, late December.Clear blue sky, very cold and clear. Unbelievably impressive view of the Alps, snow-topped, Mont Blanc majestic in the middle. Also Lake Geneva, the Jet d'eau visible in the valley haze. Had a vin chaud each with a plate of frites to share, and luxuriated in the sun behind the panoramic restaurant windows. Definitely, definitely worth the trip!
