A church with an exciting history, and in itself special and beautiful, in my opinion.
Cheap in entrance fee, but deserve more. They have some good toilet facilities.
But one has to come outside the tourist season, to have the best experience.

Beautiful and mysterious!

This 900-year old round-church is unique and so beautiful - and its history is really mysterious! Apparently, there are several different theories about why it was built and what it was used for - and there is a nice exhibition (in the tower under the ceiling) there explains the different theories - I like the story about the protection/ defence function and that the Knight Templars had something to do with the specific location :) A most see when at Bornholm!

The Classic Church of Bornholm
Aug 2019 • Couples
This church is almost 1,000 years old. It is an architectural centerpiece of the island of Bornholm. It's a very nice place to visit and try to understand the architecture. It is in very beautiful condition. Well worth the visit. Look north from the second story for a most impressive view over the countryside.

On the island of Bornholm are 4 round churches from the 12th century. Beautiful buildings. I think this one is the best to visit if you have to choose..

Round churches are at least in Europe, not so popular. The buildings's structure is in itself beautiful. I would have liked to find some more details in english about it

Round Church

MY FIRST REVIEW SEEMS TO HAVE SUNK WITHOUT TRACE.

All the photos I had seen of this church were so interesting that I had to go and see for myself. I was not disappointed and would recommend a visit without hestation. Quite unlike anything I had seen before.
Dating back about 900 years (Rune stones inside even older) it appears originally not to have had that conical roof serving thus as a place of worship and also physical refuge from pirates. A virtual mini castle. I am so pleased to have been there.

XII century churches are one of the wonders on Bornholm. This one is the largest and among other wonders it includes Middle Ages frescos and staircase leading to the roof hidden inside the wall. It is definitely worth visiting!

More popular of the round churches
May 2019 • Couples
It is easily the most popular and most visited. Therefor there is an entrance fee. The chalk paintings are in good condition and there is a tower too. Simple and elegant in its simplicity.
