I stopped off at a Roman Villa in Desanzano. The town was a lovely spot on a hill by the lake. The remains of the villa were foundation rudimentary and required a lot of imagination. The best feature were the mosaics. The villa was late Roman with changes from Republican times to the 5th century AD. The villa was first... More

We visited the villa , being keen to experience some local history. The ruin is well managed, it is a real pity that planning laws did not prevent a large portion being destroyed for modern apartments & parking. There are some interesting artifacts & this is a pleasant way to spend an hour mid afternoon

Unique Roman ruins along the lake...pretty mosiacs and bas-relief portraits enacting times long ago...located behind the Duomo, near the lake, these antiquities were commissioned by the brother of the Emperor at the time, who Desenzano was named after...nice for a short visit.

We were looking for something local on the first morning and came across this, was reasonably priced and it was very interesting. The Attendant gave us an English Guide book and it was a fascinating look round the floor layout and mosaics

The villa is well worth spending an hour to visit. The floor plan is clear to see and you get really good access to see the mosaic floors. The staff were very friendly and provided us with information in English.

The Roman mosaic floors are lovely. There is more to be excavated. The grounds are pretty. It is easy to reach on foot.

The Roman villa remains at Desenzano are little promoted and hardly signposted. Tip: walk behind the Duomo from the Old Port Square and follow road straight into the tree-shrouded entrance. The layout of this once-splendid, once-lakeside party house shows that it was built to entertain. The residential and baths area is secondary. Little or nothing is left above ground level,... More

Well planned out with wheelchair access to admire this roman villa and it's mosaics tucked behind main streets of desenzano. Even got good toilets. Well it's.not.surprising.seeing as it was an enormous villa with public bathing!
