This park provides a nice shady place to walk away from the traffic - unless you count bikes! There are stalls and a few cafes, currently a street food festival for a few evenings where the food choices are varied and excellent. Bicycle hire, children's pony rides, mini-golf, small fairground rides and trampolines. Also makes a good path towards the train station. I haven't found the duck pond yet.

My wife and I hired bikes from Burlando in the park. The guy was great, he sorted out the correct sizes (good quality bikes, not old wrecks) made sure we were OK and we said we would be about 2 hours. I asked about paying / deposit etc. and he just said "pay when you get back". Can't imagine that happening in many places! We rode through the park and then onto the sea front and went a couple of miles at a nice easy pace.
We duly returned after our 2 hours and he charged us 10 Euro!!!! How they make it pay I'll never know so I gave a bit extra. So the Very Good rating is as much about Burlando's as the park itself. Appreciate it was towards to end of the season but my personal view is that the local authorities do not make the best of this lovely spot. Dog owners don't seem to have heard of poop scoops so if you have children be aware of this and also there seemed to be a lot of glass bottles lying around, an issue for everyone but particularly for children. Don't let this put you off just take care.

I admittedly have childhood memories of the place. But a must for all ages to catch some cool breeze, away from the heat, if visiting in summer. There are a few places to eat snacks, drinks, ice creams as well as the famous donuts. "Bomboloni" which are highly recommended, like nowhere else be it stuffed or plane.
For the kids there are bikes of different types for rent and for the younger ones there are various rides to take like in amusement parks. Well worth the visit for a walk or just a cool drink in the shade.

Whatever you do, don't miss out on a walk through what is probably the real heart of this town: a wonderful oasis under the pines, planes and lime trees that, in summer weather, is going to be much cooler than the surrounding town. It is certainly Italian (italics mine) and you'll see tutti la citta! Go for a stroll before breakfast, during the day, in the evening--you'll know you're experiencing the genuine thing. Have a drink, a cappuccino or a light lunch in one of the cafes therein (our favourite is La Pagoda which is a about two-thirds the way up the central avenue). The northern third of this green oasis (across the via Marco Polo) is even greener and quieter than the rest. When you've tired of the razzamatazz of the seafront passagiata, head inland one street over for a real refresher. If you're staying at the Principe di Piemonte, the Grand Royal, the Astor, or the Palace on the seafront, remember it's only one block inland to experience this breath of scented air. Although it's thickly-wooded in most of its acreage, I've never felt anything less than completely comfortable at any time of the day or evening.

Great place for a wander to get in the shade for a while.
Lots to do for families including food, games for the kids and bike hire.

The pine would has fairground attractions, bars and kiosks, crazy golf, pony rides and tennis. There is a network of tracks through the wood. There a re 2 bike hire places. The first you arrive at from the Via Amerigo Vespucci end is the one we used with hire at 4,5,6,8 and 12 Euro for 1, 2, 3 hour and half/ full day. Bikes vary in styles and are well maintained and open 0800-2200. The other one looked good too.

This is the "central park" of Viareggio - a huge wooded park with paths and native trees/plants as well as kids' carnival rides, bike rentals, restaurants and more. Take a picnic or go for a stroll - you'll see locals doing the same thing. Very peaceful. Feels safe and family-oriented in the times I've walked through.

This is a great place to escape the hot sun and busy seafront, there are plenty of park benches and picnic tables in the sun or shade. If you want to be more energetic there are bikes to hire and play areas for children. There is also a lovely bakery (Beppe's Bakery) at the back of the park where you can buy your picnic lunch.
