Lago Maggiore is beautifully situated in the Italian Alps with Italy at the southern end, and Switzerland to the north. Mountains rise all around the crystal clear lake, and views are spectacular wherever you look. Simply stunning views. I stayed in the Regina Palace Hotel...More

Stayed in Stresa to explore this lake by boat The picturesque fishing villages on Lake Maggiore are a sight to see. Clusters of rainbow-coloured buildings pepper the shoreline giving each village its own unique personality. Plenty of photo opportunities with the stunning scenery.

I would go to Stresa which is a small resort town of 5.000 inhabitants with everything on it and good enough for Hemingway.

I went in late September and only needed a very light coat. If you prefer it warm I'd go in June/July.
