Work appears to be on hold at the site; a common problem in smaller Italian towns. The site has been protected from the weather and fenced off. Visitors can't enter, just look through the fence. We saw a mosaic floor and the general layout, but not much more. A pity.

I've been holidaying in Vasto for over ten years and this archaeological dig has been left abandoned for most of that time with nothing happening and I'm not sure anything is being done to preserve or maintain this important historical location. Near the centre of town it's easy to locate and you can easily look into the dig from the fence to see what is there - some nice mosaics have been uncovered and can be viewed. But you can't enter the location or get up close to the mosaics because there seems to be no activity at all. A bit of a shame.
