A rainy day in Varese with a 7 and 9-year old, what to do? We surfed the net and found this museum. We went, not expecting much. We were so pleasantly surprised! The museum is a jewel. The building and grounds themselves are worth the visit. So well kept! We were greeted by one of the brothers Castiglione, who took us through the first floor of the museum and told us of the pieces with such passion, my two, normally unruly, children were captivated. He spoke as though he himself had discovered the prizes in the museum, at first I wondered why, then I looked carefully at the pictures dotting the walls and realised they were of the founding brother's expeditions. They had indeed brought these pieces together themselves over the decades! The second floor was guided by an equally-amazing and passionate family member, who managed to tell stories in such a way that the children understood and remembered almost everything they has seen in the exhibits - he spoke English perfectly!

Very interesting. My daughter Lucy and i were lucky to be shown round by Marco Castiglione himself. We had set out for a half hour walk to the park and back and decided on the spur of the moment to visit the museum. It was well worth it. We spent about two hours there. The Nubian gold mining part was maybe the most interesting but it was all very well set out and well explained. There are some unexpected pleasures in Varese :-)

A hidden gem in Varese. A lovely property with gardens in a peaceful area of Varese. Easy to spend a couple of hours taking in the fauna.
After that this little masterpiece of a museum highlighting the African travels and discoveries of two Italian brothers. It’s a small museum that is well designed and maintained and for the princely sum of 5 euros you get a guided tour of the exhibits. With a little interactive display and few short movies its a wonderful insight to the marvels of Africa, and its here in the heart (almost) of Varese.
Well done, and I hope that you get the opportunity to expand and show more of your father and uncles homage to Africa!

A hidden jewel, went with my two children 10 and 12, never seen them more interested in a Museum. The story of the brothers is fascinating and the park where the museum is located deserves a visit on its own merit

My sister in law recently got married here. The room was perfect with a beautiful fireplace. The cardinals bed in the next room was very interesting.

Very interesting museum, I particularly appreciated the casts of rock graffiti. It has several gems, you just have to give credit to these little jewels, perhaps little known, but absolutely worth visiting. A round of applause to the lady who guided us, with passion and meticulous preparation, through the rooms of the museum. Thank you with all my heart.

Beautiful experience especially for today which was a rainy day very reasonable price given the treatment by the guides, they told everything exhaustively without even making the hours spent in the museum burdensome, the part about the toepliz villa was also interesting. we highly recommend a visit to the museum which is also worth considering the area in which it is located, in fact to get there we crossed most of the gardens of the villa which were very well worth it

I didn't know the Castiglionis, great explorers of the 1950s, not even Toeplitz, owners of the museum. I went for a guided tour in mid-September with my son Marco, yesterday I went back because it is a place where relaxation is embraced with ethnic culture, the passion and culture that Marco brings is priceless.
I spent 5 hours without realizing it as if I had given a day off to relax, exciting and fascinating stories of 2 explorers who gave Varese truly great wealth
I could continue the story further..... but I'll just say thank you very much to Marco and the boys... and I recommend to adults and children a nice trip with a walk in the immense park that looks like the gardens of Versailles thank you thank you thank you👍👍🙏 🙏❤️

Go there, it's really worth the money. Also suitable for the little ones, however, attention is paid to historical and ethnological details. The testimonies of daily life and tribal rites still unpolluted by modern influences are interesting. Thanks in particular to Mr. Marco Castiglioni, it was truly a privilege to listen to you
