We're staying in Mercallo for a month and the owner of the place gave me use of his mountain bike as I'm a keen(ish) cyclist and the lakeside path is easily accessible from the village. There are car parks along either roads SS629 or SP18, however they are a bit isolated so think it would probably be safer to park around Ternate/Varano Borghi. It's not all flat so expect some elements of excertion, also it's sometimes confusing as to where the path continues as the surface changes - I went clockwise and someone has kindly painted direction arrows on the path in places to assist. One of the sections consists of a 500metre boardwalk over the lake which looks new. You can of course walk the 12km or so path and it's very scenic in places, or you could just undertake a section around Ternate where there's convenient refreshment stops. The path also joins up with the Lake Varese trail although I didn't see it signposted (not that I was looking for it). There's a childrens play park/picnic area and swimming platforms next to the rowing club along SP18 between Corgeno and Varano Borghi.

A great way to spend a day, walking around lake Comabbio. The circular route is 12.5 km long, which takes 3-4 hours. Most of the paths are for pedestrians and cyclists only. It is a very peaceful and tranquil location and there are plenty of birds and flowers to see. There are places to stop for lunch on the route as well.

if you have your own bike, drive to any carpark just off the SS629 around Mercallo, Ternate, Corgeno etc , 13kms ride suitable for all the family. Take water because sometimes the 2 bars are closed .

Lake Comobbio is rather tucked away between the better known Lake Varese and Lake Monate, but is very much worthwhile. The bike path is lovely and the views impressive. A refreshing little tour.
