    Amazing modern art exhibitions
Housed within this exquisite villa, the collection of American modern artists truly shows that Ponza was a man ahead of his time. I loved the juxtaposition of the modern artworks set amongst the traditional furnishings and stately gardens. One of the volunteer guides was incredibly helpful with background on the art and a history of the family (Ponza’s wife, now 92, still uses the upper floors of the villa in summer). Be sure to watch the video on the upper level to give you a sense of the collection.

    Worth a visit
Realy worth a visit. We went there with our adult children. Especially the rooms with the different lights are interesting. And a good place to take a lot of special photos. The park is also lovely.

For art lovers and anybody passing by Varese
What a beautiful place to visit. If you like modern art combined with a beautiful house and garden to visit. If there is only one thing to visit in Varese, except the Sacre Monte, you need to take 2 hours at least to discover this unique place

Villa Panza has been on our to-do-list for a while and we finally made it. Everyone working there was helpful and friendly and we enjoyed the exhibits, the villa and the garden. We walked there, which is not ideal as you basically walk on the streets so we suggest to drive there. Worth the visit

The nicest experience were the gardens. The villa in itself was not was we expected: not a lot of insights into what the villa looked like during the past centuries, instead a mix with some modern art paintings that were not quite our taste...in total for 2 we paid 30 euros which was a bit much for the experience. From the garden you will have a very nice view on Varese and surroundings, should we do this again, the gardens would be enough, not the visit of the villa.

No doubt.
Villa Panza is the best art collection we've in Italy.
Actually is a private one made possible by the visionnaire owner of the house, sir Panza.
This amazing guy donated his own Villa to FAI which is a national organization to support artistic, architectural and landscape heritage.
The Villa contains an incredible collection. There you can see modern and contemporary artist like Dan Flavin, Robert Irwin, Lawrence Carroll, Phil Sims, Max Cole but especially James Turrell who did on site 3 beautiful installation that are part of the permanent collection.
The Villa itself is marvellous and if you're lucky you can enjoy a beautiful autumn afternoon having lunch on the grass of the incredible garden.
I'm a lover of this place and I'll never be tired to come back another and another time..
Go!!!

If you're an art and architecture lover like me, don't miss Villa Panza in Varese Italy, between Lakes Maggiore and Como. In this exquisite 18th century villa, worth seeing for the architecture alone, resides the unexpected: one of Europe's most important collections of American contemporary art. The juxtaposition of new vs. old has never been more cleverly conceived. And don't miss the videos of collector Giuseppe Panza whose life story, and obsession with art, are worth the trip alone.

After paying admission, parking, and lunch at the cafe, I left feeling like I had been pick-pocketed. The villa itself is a treasure, although not unlike many others in the area. Garden has lots of green space, but again, not overly inspiring. The art exhibit really left me scratching my head. Room after room of white painted walls with varying colored lights, or natural light coming through a hole in the wall or ceiling.
Lunch in the restaurant was overpriced and skimpy. They could have at least covered my parking since I ate there!
I was sorry to have wasted my afternoon and money.

The Panza's were among the most important visionary art collectors of 20th Century art in the world. Their gifts make up the core of L.A.s Museum of Contemporary Art, and recently have given huge gifts to the Guggenheim. The villa has staged (or organized) temporary exhibitions of leading artists and movements-- last poster I saw was from a year earlier

The current exhibition, I think permanent, was divided into two parts. On ground floor a large collection of work-- mostly single colored canvas by artists with whom I was barely familiar. While we looked, we gave them short notice on anticipation of work on the second floor--works largely created for the Villa by Light & Space artists--the majority by Dan Flavin with significant work by James Turrell & Robert Irwin. These works were created for the physical location of the villa and the singularity of the light in Varese and the views from and spaces of the villa. These works--more than a dozen-- made the ride to Varese worth the trip.

Interestingly, the villa is kind of uninteresting architecture --one would have expected cutting edge collectors to have done interesting ennovations. The gardens are formal but lovely.

We had the museum, literally to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. Their was one guard who was sent to look after us and enjoyed showing off the collection

Villa Panza is beautiful and unique.
Easy to access by car with a private parking...
The art collection is impressive...
Audio application is nevertheless poor as the wifi does not function properly throughout the building...
Staff was not very helpful...
A shame since this place has a tremendous pofential...
