Fantastic bespoke trip of different activities

In June 2022, we finally arrived in Tropea in Calabria for our long-awaited vacation which we booked with in italy tours before the COVID pandemic started.

We continued to engage Tania, the owner of in italy tours during the pandemic and when the borders reopened in 2022, she was able to finalised our itinerary according to our preferences and needs. We hiked/walked for a few days in Palmi, Monte Poro and Joppolo with a very good local guide Anita whom Tania works closely with. Tania also brought us on a gastronomy journey with planned lunches that featured local food specialties. We had plenty to eat and what a wide variety and long line up of delicious food!

We also had a fantastic cooking class with Laura and Daniel who operate an Agriturismo in up in the hills near Tropea. Together with another couple, we learned about authentic Italian food and cooking and sustainable farming from the hosts and Tania. We shared a large meal and we were all very full, happy. and relaxed by the end of our day at the Agritusimo.

Tania also planned for us to meet a local wine producer Francesco and we had a private tour of his vineyards and cantina. We had the chance to taste his wines, including a 5 -ear red which features the Magliocco grape that is exclusive to the area of Brattiro in Calabria. A delicious homemade meal was also prepared for us. It was a lovely day, many thanks to the generous host and Tania.

Tania is enthusiastic, sincere, thoughtful, generous, fun and informative. With her wide network of friends and working partners, we were able to see and do more. For instance, we visited and observed food preparation/cooking in the kitchen of a high-end restaurant by the beach. Chef Enzo kept the food coming and Tanya did the same with wine. What a wonderful experience.

Also worth mentioning was Tania's arrangement to put us up at Residenza II Barone in Tropea. The restored residence was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. Ercole and his colleagues at the residence were attentive to us and had been most helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Not forgetting our cheerful driver Luca, who brought us to various destinations safely.

I highly recommend in italy tours when planning a trip to Tropea and nearby towns in Calabria. Let Tania show you how great your trip can be!

Amazing ancestry and cooking tour

Our family of 4 (myself, my husband and our 2 sons who are in their early 20’s) had an experience of a lifetime with Tania as our guide and translator and Luca as our driver. My husband’s grandparents are from Maida, a small town in Calabria. We sent Tania information about his family and she went to Maida a few weeks before we arrived to find birth certificates and make contact with locals to show us around. She even contacted some of my husband’s Italian cousins who met up with us. With Tania’s help we were able to find the house my husband’s grandfather grew up in and also his great grandfather’s tomb in the mausoleum. Everyone in Maida was so friendly and we had a great experience there with Tania as our translator. She then took us to a restaurant nearby where in addition to a delicious lunch we got a tour of how they produced olive oil. We had another wonderful experience with Tania the next day when our family had a private outdoor cooking class using many fresh ingredients from Laura and Daniele’s farm. Laura is an amazing cook and we’ve already made some of the new recipes. We also really enjoyed learning about the different fruit trees- olives, lemons, cherries, etc, etc. They are a super nice couple and Tania did a great job helping us communicate with them. Tania’s tours are based in Tropea a very beautiful old walkable seaside town with lots of Italian but no American tourists (except us!) We loved the hotel she set up for us. We could walk everywhere and it served a delicious breakfast with a great view on their terrace every morning. I highly recommend touring with Tania! She will make sure you have a wonderful experience!

Exceptional Calabrese Farm to Table Cooking Experience

Tania from In Italy Tours hosted us for an exceptional farm to table cooking class in Calabria. It truly exceeded all of my expectations - food, company, and atmosphere. Four of us were welcomed to the property by the owners Laura and Daniele. They have a beautiful vineyard and outdoor kitchen to cook and dine. The menu was seasonal with fresh fruits and vegetables handpicked from their gardens. We enjoyed a beautiful spread of appetizers with typical Calabrese foods and homemade wine while we cooked. Daniele even went out of his way to bring fresh and hot local bread from the bakery. We toured the property before we ate under the grapevines. Tania so effortlessly translated and educated us on traditional Calabrese foods, resources, and traditions as we cooked and ate. Thanks to Laura, we left with a plethora of leftovers. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Tania and this experience. It felt authentic and extremely personal. She has a passion for what she does, and it shines through. I would highly recommend In Italy Tours!

This Tour Company is Fabulous and Has So Much to Offer!

Tania was incredible and so were her drivers! We did 2 tours with Tania 2 days in a row. First a farm to table cooking course that included us eating everything they cooked and we helped prepare. The family that hosted, Laura and Daniele were so warm and welcoming and the food was wonderful. The next day we did Tania's ancestry tour for my husband's family that are from Rogliano, Calabria. Months in advance, I sent Tania the Italian birth certificate of my husbands grandfather born in Rogliano, the commune did their research and it turned into a day I can't even fully explain. We went on such a beautiful journey through this historic and artful village and found such amazing people and connections along the way. The day ended with a delicious lunch at a wonderful restaurant where the Chef/Mama came out to greet us. The entire two days felt like we were family and I cannot thank Tania enough for this beautiful and heartfelt experience!!!

The perfect cooking class

This was the perfect cooking class experience. My sister and I were overwhelmed by the beautiful farm setting and the seemingly endless wine and local food tastings. Tania, Laura and Daniel were all so friendly, and so passionate and knowledgeable about local Calabrian produce and cuisine. We got to help prepare ingredients for lots of different dishes, went on a tour of the farm to taste homemade wine and fruit, had an amazing lunch amongst the vineyards and got to take the leftovers home! This was definitely one of the best meals of our entire trip, and I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Unforgettable

This cooking experience was outstanding for both my husband and I. Tania translated everything from pick-up to drop-off. She explained in detail all the recipes and answered questions we asked without hesitation. We were both very involved in the entire experience. Daniele and Laura were absolutely the best hosts. They have a fabulous family, home, restaurant, and business together. You can surely tell they love what they do, teaching others of Calabrian foods. They welcomed us with food, fed us like royals, and made sure we left with extras. We enjoyed our walk around there home, farm and grove.

Amazing! The food is fantastic, the people are so warm and welcoming and Tania really knows her stuff. There isn’t a more authentic Calabrian food experience out there. Such a beautiful property. A tip - don’t eat breakfast! You will need your whole appetite for this lunch.

Great authentic experience, fantastic people!

We had a most wonderful day on the Calabrian countryside! Tania took us to Laura & Daniele, who run an agritursimo near Tropea. We learnt how to make several authentic calabrian dishes, all with local ingredients and vegetables from the property. Even the wine was local, made by Daniele's father!
Thank you Tania for your excellent guidande all day and bravo to Laura & Daniele for continuing the great Calabrian food tradition (and of course for sharing it with us!).
They deserve great respect and should be encouraged. We highly recommend this culinary experience, most professionally organized by Tania.

Tanya did an excellent job introducing us to the fresh fish industry in the Tropea area. The fish market experience was very informative and interesting. Afterwards we were treated to an amazing dining experience at a local restaurant with one of the best chefs I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Every one of the courses was impeccable presented and tasted great. This is a tour I would highly recommend.

A Unique & Wonderful Experience!

This was a highlight of an immensely memorable trip! Tania is a wonderful host with an engaging charisma and energy that is simply infectious. Getting to meet Laura and Daniele and learn about their farm and culture was an unforgettable afternoon. We ate like royalty, interacted like family and enjoyed the afternoon. When we travel through Tropea again, we will look to repeat the experience. Do NOT pass up the opportunity!
