I was there before the sunset, so you can catch the great light to take pictures of Tropea, the church itself is also interesting to see, you can climb on the roof and go to garden, where you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea and Stromboli vulcano, you can watch the sunset from here as well, which is breathtaking.... From the lookout points at Santurio Santa Maria dell'Isola you can capture some amazing seascapes. Wear comfortable shoes and be sure to take your camera. The only drawback is that they close for a few hours in the afternoon. Be sure to check the times before walking up all the stairs or you may get to the gate and find... More

The outside is confusing - it is really an ancient site. For a euro or so, you can go to see a small museum of paintings (and also a clean bathroom...), get some views from the verandah and go into to small cactus garden. Clearly worth it. You get good view down onto the beach with its vivid colours.

This site is more appealing from a distance than close up, but is still worth a visit! There is a steep climb down the stairs from the historic centre of Tropea, then an equally steep climb up the other side. But take your time , and don't go in the middle of the day, and you'll be fine. Pay the... More

If you are on the west coast of Calabria it is well worthwhile to visit this beautiful church at a stunning location. The church is small, but the walk up gives great views. It is also nice the cross the road and climb up to the view-point in Tropea to view the church.

The location of the Church, in what once was an island, is beautiful. There are steps, and good signs for opening hours. The views from the Church and from the surrounding garden are spectacular.

I think it's the most important thing to do in Tropea, even if, I'm telling you, you might find it not so interesting. The ticket it's just 1 euro, nothing impossible. The thing I liked the most was the small garden all around the building, you can relax, enjoy the sound of the sea and you have a wonderful view... More

Great way to get exercise climbing all the steps just for the 360 stellar view, not to mention to tour the church.

The church is quite beautiful from the outside. Once you are inside there is really not too much here to see. The gardens are dreadful and neglected. Looks like everyone that visits carves their names (etc) into the cactuses. There is a custodian there that seems to do nothing but lock and unlock the gate. Little gift shop seems to... More

Beautiful southern Italy! Visiting historical Santa Maria dell'Isola is worth the visit. Wear walking sandals or shoes as you will have to climb several steps up the rock to the top. It is an easy walk. Visiting the church and gardens is wonderful. The small gift shop also includes unique inexpensive gifts to take home. Views of Tropea and the... More
