Tropea Beach is truly one of a kind. The overlook gives you just a small taste of how clear and refreshing the water is. The views of this beach, the volcano Stromboli in the distance and looking up at the historic town are something I had never experienced before.
We spent four lovely days enjoying the sea, sand and lovely people. We rented chairs at Le Roccette Club on a couple of those days and having your own privacy was well worth the €35 for an entire day. You could swim out to the booeys and somehow still see to the crystal clear bottom of the ocean. The waves were very calm and little on most days we visited. Some of the best swimming in the world.
Just a heads up. Bring a beach bag down to the beach if you are staying in town. I logged 122 floors during the week on my Fitbit because it is a hike to climb down the stairs.

Driving throughout Italy found this by chance. Compared to other places like Sorrento it is calm and inviting and a little less hype. Beaches are beautiful and the time itself is very quaint. Lots of families!

Stunning beaches with deep blue clear water, and white sand that really invites you to hang out for a game with the kids or just sunbathe. A good part of the beaches stretch beneath a high rock cliff and creates a great view. You can rent boats on the spot and go on an amazing cruise to see the bays and hills along which the beaches stretch.
Visiting the place is highly recommended, especially with the children youngs and adults.
HIGHLY RECOMNENDED.

Well, the Tropea beach is extremely picteresque - just under the rock with the famous Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell Isola. The sand is gorgeous. We visited the place in March, where there were no sunbathers, but I am sure that in the summer months this place must be crowded. But even in offseason it's worth a stroll with a view on sunny day.

Tropea is the jewel of the Calabrian coast, and its easy to see why - the beach is one of the best we've seen in Europe. It's free to access and spotlessly clean. The water is clear, refreshing and the temperature was perfect for swimmin in September when we visited. The views of the glittering blue water, Stromboli in the far distance and views of the sanctuary and old town make it all very atmospheric. I'm not really a beach person (my wife is), but we spent hours swimming and lounging on the beach over our two days in Tropea, and time just seemed to stand still. An absolute knockout!

A quaint town overlooking beautiful beaches. Best visited early in the morning or later in the evening as it is scorching hot during the day. I was afraid of not being able to find parking but visited yesterday and there were ample parking spaces available along the lungomare. To visit if in Calabria, especially if one loves the sea.

The beach is not a really big but it's pretty well organized. There is a bathing establishment where you can rent a beach umbrella and sunbeds and also there are bars and restaurants. There is also a free zone where you can settle your own beach umbrella, sunbeds, etc...
The color of the water is crystal and so beautiful . This is one of the best beaches we've visited in Italy.
There is a quite few parking space. If you have an accommodation in the historical center or nearby you have to go up and down the steps to go to the beach. It's a pretty good exercise!

Tropea is a small and quiet place at the sea. The city centre is nice to discover and worth paying a visit. Lots of restaurants within the village walls. Do take a look at the viewpoint area at the end of the high street in the north-west direction. Gorgeous view!

Tropea is a beautiful location in the Calabria region. The Tyrrhenian Sea is stunning! The water is crystal clear and the color of the water is an amazing blue color. I have never seen such fabulous color and the water is warm for swimming. The area is a wonderful vacation destination, with lots of delicious restaurants, shops and areas for walking to enjoy the scenery. My husband and I were only able to visit for the day but would definitely come back to stay for a week’s vacation. Fabulous!

We're just at the beginning of spending a whole month in Tropea as part of our year in Europe and we've already come to really like this little town. Locals are very friendly and the old part of Tropea is really fun to explore (even though very quiet at this time of the year, in March).
However, what really shocked us (and still does) is the amount of littering and pure disregard of any environmental concerns. Bins are overflowing and the stench of rotten household refuse follows you as you walk along the main roads.
The biggest shock for us, however, occurred when we went down to one of Tropea's northern beaches. Looking forward to a picnic at a deserted beach (as they are in off-season), we were really upset when we found not a single spot without plastic bottles, car tyres or rusty metal parts (see photos). We decided to give up and return home when we found a syringe amidst all the litter.
We were told that Tropea cleans up the beach for the tourist season, but still, it leaves you wondering what is *in* the water and hiding below the sand.
I'm usually not the person who whines openly about a bad travel experience, but unless Tropea (and many, many other parts of Italy) get their littering problem under control, this was the last time I spend my tourist dollars in this country. It really dampened our experience and we will not recommend coming here — on or off season. It's a real pity.
