The church of Santa Maria della Consolazione is one of the historical-artistic greats of Todi, as well as one of the largest churches in Umbria (by the eye, however, less vast than Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi): it was designed, according to hypotheses not confirmed by Bramante, in the sixteenth century outside the walled city of the time, in which space would not have been enough, and still presents itself as a splendid example of Renaissance architectural achievement.
The church is enhanced by its location in a relatively unbuilt area on the road to Orvieto (if you get to Todi from this city it is visible from a considerable distance), with ample green spaces, so much so that the building itself is surrounded by lawns. The structure, in the shape of a Greek cross with a central plan, four apses and a huge dome, is very original and gives both outside and inside an idea of harmonious spatiality also accentuated, inside, by the diffuse penetration of light from the numerous openings.
Overall, the ornamentation takes a bit of a back seat to the effect given by the architectural structure as such; however, although somewhat in contrast to the Renaissance structure, the heavy Baroque high altar that houses the image of the Madonna della Consolazione dedicatory of the church. A really out of tune note, unfortunately, is the pipe organ added in our century, futuristic, square and shiny like a class A appliance, which would not have been difficult to find a less inappropriate placement.

The temple is located at the foot of the town of Todi. Its architecture is a fusion of Renaissance and Baroque styles, which come together harmoniously to create a building of extraordinary beauty.
Once inside, you are surrounded by an atmosphere of spirituality and serenity. The frescoed vaults and gilded altars are a true sight to behold, while the sacred furnishings and religious works of art add a touch of grandeur and devotion to the temple.
The peculiarity of the Temple of Santa Maria della Conciliazione is its unique and fascinating history. Built in the 18th century as a symbol of reconciliation between the city's rival factions, it represents an important moment of unity and harmony in the history of Todi.
Ultimately, the Temple of Santa Maria della Conciliazione is an essential stop for anyone visiting Todi. Its architectural beauty, the spirituality that pervades the place and its fascinating history make it a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

This church either the design work of Bramante or his pupil Michelangelo is a large structure beautiful in its white stone simplicity. It is stunning viewed in the early morning sunlight or evening sunset. Inside there are inches with each of the 12 apostles larger than life size...one was damaged in an earthquake 2 years ago . The alter is simple . This is a very unusual church well worth a visit .

This church is quite old; a landmark in the area. Inside of it is nice, but not particularly beautiful compared to other churches in Italy.

Brian Sewell, in a BBC television programme concerning Todi, said he thought its exterior the most perfect small Renaissance church in Italy (and that means the world!) and we agree. You could not change any of the proportions without ruining its harmony and
spatial perfection. For unavoidable, technical reasons the distortion on the photo above does not give an accurate representation of this. Come and see it! An Italian must!

Interesting because of its unique architectural design, this very large church is just outside the town walls (the city is very small) and well used for local events. The interior is imposing but pretty stark. Baroque altar.
