During our stay in Spoleto we walked along sections of the Pista Ciclabile, the path passes through Spoleto along the streets, we followed the signs to the cycle path leading to Assisi. This section through the town was uninteresting to walk as was the concrete cycle path, overgrown edges, limited interesting countryside view and exposed to the open air, no shade or water.

In the other direction we walked along the abandoned railway, Ex-Ferrovia Spoleto-Norcia, which is a hiking trail also shared by the Pista Ciclabile from what we could see. This trail is of mixed surfaces, compacted surface or gravel, there are stunning views over the countryside as well as a mixture of shade or open aired, but the fun bit are the number of tunnels to walk/cycle through, most are short but there is a tunnel just under two kilometres long, a torch is necessary as is a jumper and a bit of nerve.

Stunning woods, spectacular viaducts. It's a shame about the terrible signage for those who go on foot, where even a few kilometers can change your day. AN INTERRUPTION SUCH AS THE VALICO TUNNEL MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED AT THE START OF SPOLETO WITH THE EXTRA KM TO GO. Then the signs to take the track back to Tassinare are indecent. The crucial sign has been torn down and other signs of a mountain bike race have not been removed and are misleading. Other marrons, with pleasant wordings (alternative route, reserved for groups) I have to understand what they mean in that context. Bad experience for a trekker
