The fun part of Spoletosfera is getting there on the 'mobileator' system -- Spoleto's 'travelator', a moving underground sidewalk that provides access up and down the steep hills. The geodesic dome (made by Buckminster Fuller for Spoleto in 1967) is home to temporary art exhibits on a site on top of the municipal parking lot.

Despite being a landmark at the entrance of the historic city, it has not much to see.
Very close to an entrance to the underground conveyor belt

The well-organized parking lot is a perfect way for visiting this beautiful city by car. It is easy to find and very convenient to approach the city, once you parked the car. There are steps, elevators and travellators that will take you directly to the Information Center at the Piazza della Liberta in the center of the city. Excellent!

Hope this review helps first timers: google maps will get you to this parking spot, but be aware that there are trees blocking most of the entrance sign so it is very easy to miss when driving, only the blue P was visible. Also, from this parking area, use google maps to locate the Cathedral and walk there in 10 minutes or so, you can take people mover up from there but signs to the entrance are hard to find and somewhat confusing (you take an elevator ride, then you get on the people mover). I made huge mistake by using maps to find the start of the people mover which is a long and frankly ugly walk below the town breathing all the car smoke along the way, not a good way to start the day.

This is a very modern structure that is completely out of place in beautiful historic Spoleto. I felt it did not belong here and was kind of ugly .

Just walk out of the park and then suddenly you see the Sfera. Our kids liked it and started running around in the Sfera, very funny

Walking around Spoleto one is not expecting to see unusual modern sculptures but there is a collection of sculptures spread out around the town. The Geodesic Dome Spoletosphere by Richard Buckminster Fuller is located near an underground carpark between Viale Matteotti and Viale Martyrs of the Resistance. At the right time of the day it can make for a interesting photograph.
