It's a fun to hike up (very easy hike), about 5 minutes from the trail. It's closed off due to falling rocks, but we wandered around the ruins anyway. The area is beautiful.

Bit of a climb only to find the way barred at the entrance steps. WE met a chap there who was actually just coming out and he was telling us that he was from the Bernese Oberland but that he preferred these mountains. He also told us he was here because he had just read an 800 page book about Oswald von Wolkenstein and that he was born in this castle. So there was no way he was not going inside! After he had left we discovered that thee were great views from the higher reaches!!!

Wolkenstein Castle, located right to the north of the town. After walking through knee-deep snow, I climbed uphill and reached the castle, now standing mostly in ruins. It was built in the 13th century and only part of the walls of the keep are remaining. As I was up there I could see the whole valley down below including the town of Selva and the Sassolungo mountain right above it

...officially closed off (no entrance allowed). The climb is a little challenging, watch out for wandering cows.

The castle defies gravity and how it was used as a dwelling has to be seen to be believed. from the path of the stations of the cross the castle access is steep but easy managed. The fortification is impressive with fantastic views and we could see and hear the alphorn being played about half a mile away down the valley. The Castello Wolkenstein is down the Vallunga valley and an easy walk from Selva however we approached it from Danteceepies passing deer on the way coming out of the snow and clouds however the diversion was worth it. We then walked back down the Vallunga valley back to Selva.
