Poor lift interlinking compared to Austria. If Val Gardena wants to be the World Championship host in 2019 it better do something about the lifts and the buses. Buses *should* stop at the lift station but no…they have to stop 300m away from the lift station. My husband has chronic fatigue and is trying to ski but the amount of walking and carrying skis is totally depleting his energy. The piste map does not show blue runs at the top of Dantercepies which are shown on the piste. Wanted to get a bus to the blues at Plan de Gralba. The first 354 bus only went as far as Plan so what use is that?? Buses are rarer than hen’s teeth!! We are heading back to Austria from now on - Val Gardena is not worth the effort. It’s just a s**t ski area. Even the nursery area at Nives- none of the lifts interlink?? It is just rubbish! I know people will disagree with me but I’ve worked in Switzerland and Austria for over 3 years in ski resorts and Selva is the worst!

We visited in early September because our goal was hiking in the area around Ortisei. And wow, wow, wow!!
Ski lifts, cable cars, furniculars are everywhere. Not 100% of them operate in the offseason but the maps available at hotels are pretty specific. Be sure to double check hours of operation so you can time your return correctly. Each day was spectacular and different. We stayed in Ortisei and sometimes took buses at the start or end of our days. Some of the trails are not open in the fall season (after Sept and before ski season starts) so be sure to do your research if going in say, October or November. The conditions can become too reacherous for hiking (the week after we left it snowed at some of the higher trails and they were closed to hiking) and I think they do trail maintenance.
My only less positive comment would be that the buses were always packed with many standing. It's hard to imagine how people manage with skis! Perhaps there are many more buses in ski season - but we could have used more buses on the routes in September. This goes for the buses to/from Bolzano as well.
If at all possibe - go see this gorgeous part of the world!

We spent almost 2 weeks in Val Gardena. We like to hike so on the recommendation of the owner of the hotel where we stayed we bought and all-lift all-valley 10-day pass. This pass gave us unlimited access to all of the chairlifts, gondolas, and follicular's in the Valley. Note also that there is free bus service from one end of the valley to the other. The combination of the two allowed us to spend every day sightseeing and finding more trails to hike. Ike's were anywhere from a mile to 12 miles and included up to six different chairlifts in one day. In fact, it was possible to go from the valley of Val Gardena to Corvara in the next valley over by way of buses and chairlifts..

A few years ago we hiked the Tour de Mont Blanc over a period of 13 days. During That tour you hike long distances every day including walking over glaciers. Spectacular.

This valley is spectacular in another way. While the mountains were geologically amazing there were not the glaciers you had to contend with as you did on the tour de Mont Blanc. However, the hiking is very steep and so I would recommend everyone of every age consider buying and learning how to properly use hiking poles to make hiking up easier and hiking down safer.

Have been skiing for 23 years and most of that has been done in Austria, Selva gives you access to the Sella Ronda, over 500km of excellent pistes, modern lifts and excellent mountain restaurants. Check out Mickys Grill in Arabba for the best lunch!

Val Gardena is absolutely sublime! I’d ski here every year. If you’re a fan of french resorts like the three valleys, drop them and get to Selva, different league of skiing and hospitality not even comparable. Actually dont, we don’t want too many people knowing about this gem.

The beautiful breathtaking scenery, the endless slopes ( one La Longia 10.5 km long) and the lovely town makes this place the Mecca for ski lovers. No matter how many times you will be there , just the thought of it makes your body crave with expectation. If I will ever know that there is only one ski vacation left in my life- Val Gardena will be the place.

Selva is amazing. The scenery is breathtaking, the village very charming, everybody is very friendly everywhere. We had a wonderful stay. Originally we just wanted to relax and enjoy the scenery but we ended up hiking and mountain biking (very friendly for that, e-bikes recommended). We look forward going back

Had a lovely stay here for two days of skiing! Wonderful area, incredible slopes that I could have skiied for weeks! Fabulous weather too. A lovely Christmas market in town, great B&B's (stayed in Garni Morene and it was perfect). I highly recommend visiting this area. If you are a skier or hiker, etc. The Dolomites are like no other place!

Famous Italian ski center connected with Val Di Fassa. I spend several days here during winter holiday. Center contain many ski slopes of all possible difficulties. Expect many visitors and queues in the morning on the way up by cabin car.

We are repeat visitors to the Dolomites for ski holidays. The weather is beautiful, the snow reliable and the on slope dining world class. The ski area is vast and there is the opportunity to do the famous Sella Ronda circumnavigation of the famous Sassalungo mountains.

Really loved our several trips here whilst doing the Sella Ronda in both directions during the week. The World Cup runs are fabulous. Great slopes to tackle. Had a lovely pizza at Cafe Sella on a gorgeous snowy day. Would like to return in summer and try MTB routes in the area.
