Scalea stole our hearts forever
Aug 2018
Two hours by car from Naples to the South there’s a town Scalea that stole our hearts forever. It has endless beaches with crystal clear waters and mountains backdrop. The people here are warm and friendly. And here’s why you should go to this beautiful place: ⠀ 🏡ACCOMMODATION Casa Vacanze Maradei is better than we imagined. Santo and Antonella welcome you in person with warm smiles and a cold bottle of Prosecco. You have the whole house for your own with the beautiful garden. It has everything you need to feel like home. It’s located in the modern part just one block away from the beach. Everything is in walking distance - supermarket, restaurants and old town. ⠀ 🍽FOOD 🍕Try local Pizza at Il Peperoncino Pizzeria Da Asporto. It’s open from 6.30pm and has over 60 types of pizzas. They usually sell to go but have couple tables outside if you want to eat freshly baked hot cheese pie. The prices start from 3 euro. ⠀ 🍝Enjoy a dinner at La Rondinella a small family run restaurant where all the mains and ingredients come from their farm. Make sure to make a reservation as this place is always fully booked. Menu changes daily based on what they bring from the farm. ⠀ 🍤There’s a street food court hidden on Via Plinio Il Vecchio. Try fresh clams spaghetti, steamed mussels and fried calamari at Fresco di Mare. It’s delicious. ⠀ 😍WALK Take stairs in old town. Just go all the way up through the ancient houses. It will lead you to the ruined castle on the top with breathtaking views of Scalea. Watch sunset and make sure to go down when it’s not very dark during twilights - the town becomes mystery and magical at this time. Take some cat treats with you. There are many kitties walking in the old town. You’ll even see the signs that Attenti al Gatto. ⠀ 🐆💬Angel: “Old town is the most mysterious place I’ve been. I loved chasing tiny lizards on the stairs while walking up 🦎. Maria said I will find the biggest lizard in the world if we go on the top before sunrise. I was so excited. Then my day was ruined. There was not a single lizard. My two-legged tricked me cuz she wanted to watch her stupid sunset😼🌅.“

Classy clean centuries old

Choose to wander around this hill top town towering above the modern part of Scalea. Centro Storico hasn't lost its charm . You can dine in its quaint trattorias or just take photos and admire the views.
Mingle with the friendly locals and go back in time with them .
A real historical piece of southern Italy.

Worth a walk and exploration
Mar 2015 • Friends
Great little town center in the old part of Scalea. It is interesting to take a leisurely walk through the winding streets and just explore. If either of the churches are open, they are worth a look, especially San Nicola (lower church). The Piazzas Cimelunga, as well as the one near Tari Restaurant, offer great views. The museum near the old city gate is always open during the day and is interesting and free. It is located in the Piazza Chimelunga. Relax and take time to stop and enjoy the walk to the old castle at the top of the hill.
