A lovely tranquil place, which houses a little chapel with beautiful Christian art and decoration commissioned by the Pope who commissioned Leonardo to paint the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. That Pope was born and raised in Savona and this chapel was a homage to his parents.

It’s only €3 to enter and we’ll worth a visit.

We visited Sistine Chapel Savona on a stop on the Costa cruise boat. It is not a far walk from the port. The walk into the city is very special interesting to Sistine Chapel. The city is old and the building and design are very interesting. The Chapel is beautiful inside and there was not a fee to visit. There is a museum next door to the chapel but was closed while we were there. If you are in Savona take the time to visit this beautiful church while in Savona. We stayed about 1 hour inside the church.

After walking down the narrow streets of Savona we came across this beautiful chapel. What a find ! From the outside it looks like a thousand other chapels but once inside its awe inspiring.
Hardly anyone there when we visited so was able to sit and soak in the atmosphere . We have seen the Sistine Chapel in Rome , overpriced and very busy . This was free and peaceful.

None of the reviews below show the opening hours and we wasted a trip. The chapel is only open

Monday 10-12
Wednesday 10-12 and 1600-1800

Saturday and Sunday 10-12

(You can find, with a fair amount of searching, an Italian site with the opening hours in Italian - really useful - one might get the impression they don't want you to visit?).

This small impressive chapel is located in the old city of Savona, a few minutes walk from the port area. Its decoration is exquisite and if is definitely worth seeing.

We wanted to visit the Sistine Chapel (open only on certain days and times) and the apartment (open on Saturday at 4.00 pm and 4.30 pm). So we went on Saturday at 4.00 pm to buy the ticket costing 3 euros per person. There were several volunteers, mostly elderly but only the younger one, a middle-aged woman could speak some English.
She told us there was no English tour available and the 4.30 pm tour would only be conducted in Italian. We were not told what to do next so we decided to look around the chapel which is small but beautiful. When we asked whether we could take photos without flash, we were told it was strictly prohibited. About 20 minutes later a big group arrived and they were allowed to take photos so we quickly did the same.
At 4.30 pm we saw the younger volunteer shepherding a group of about 20 people to a building around the corner so we followed her. We were brought to the apartment and all the time the volunteer guide only spoke to the group in Italian. Even during a lull period, she did not bother to inform us anything in English. We were disappointed with her attitude and unhelpfulness. We also felt it was not worth visiting the apartment if no explanation was given. Unless you understand Italian, I would suggest you only visit the chapel for 2 euros entrance fee.

I paid €2 to visit this place on 3 September 2017 on the basis of a recommendation from the tourist information office at the cruise terminal assuming that that was the price to pay for taking pictures; but once inside found that no pictures were allowed.

This should be made clear BEFORE you buy a ticket not afterwards.

I see no reason why you can't take pictures without flash; it would not harm the superb frescos.

One star for the paintings; but two off each for not allowing pictures and deception.

They charge 3€ for those who want to see the entire place; free for those below 18y.o. and a tour guide will explain every detail of this place. My female tour guide spoke a good command of English after explaining explaining everything first in Italian to those Italian visitors. This place was where Pope Pius VII was put in house arrest by Napoleon. So it was a nice to spend about 30mins on tour around and having a glimpse of what was his life like back in the day seeing artifacts preserved as old as the 14th century. Taking photos is strictly prohibited as I was told this place is a Franciscan convent and is highly secretive but I still managed to snap some pics when nobody's looking. It's definitely worth a visit.

Unlike the other Sistine Chapel in Rome, this one is small. However, like the original it is a beautifully decorated chapel that Savona must be proud to have. Well worth the 2 Euros to view, and maybe even stop to say a prayer or two.

It is a beautiful work of art, and it's an enjoyable visit regardless of religious beliefs, it's a gorgeous piece of architecture. It is smaller than many other chapels, so it's a quick visit, but besides that, it's beautiful.
