Right between sky and earth
Aug 2016 • Friends
No masterpieces here, only humble things that open doors on... who knows? Small cells, small cloister. But a huge sky and a view on Tiber valley. I'm not describing anything special, maybe, but the place is really special. Going back to earth, if you feel hungry, go and eat at Vasco's (better visiting the reastaurant to book before going to Montecasale...)

Great location -- not sure about the monastery
Sep 2016 • Couples
As we arrived on a Sunday morning when a service was in progress and the church closed at noon, we were not able to penetrate beyond the entry porch, so this review is based on the location and the outside of the building. The small complex is located on a pilgrim route and was originally a place where they could lodge after coming through the mountain passes. Its tiny rooms have tiny widows to keep out the winter blasts, but great views across the plain. The monastery also marks the start and end of great walking trails, some of which are conveniently circular.

A Spiritual and Sacred Place since 1212
Sep 2015 • Couples
This Holy Place was given to St Francis in 1212 and it is one of the best examples of a traditional monastic retreat in Europe. It has changed little since 1200 - that is more than 815 years ago.

A wonderful place to visit for any Christian. Highly Recommended.

I came away from Montecasale felling better and more peaceful inside.

One Of A Kind Experience
Jun 2015 • Friends
This is one of the three hermitages north of Assisi in which St. Francis is said to have stayed. It is a small hermitage with only 4 remaining monks. The owner of the Palazzo Rosadi (in Monterchi) and his family have been contributors to this hermitage for centuries and, as such, he volunteers to take his renters to see the Eremo. It is an experience not to be missed whether or not one is Roman Catholic. Why? The history of the Eremo, the ancient buildings in which the monks still live, the monks themselves, their very simple and truly down-to-earth lifestyle, and lastly, the views. I believe that one would be able to see the hermitage even without a tour led by the Rosadi family. There is no admission fee but I think it is a good idea to leave an offering in the church for the privilege of visiting and for the kindness of the monks.
