Quite a climb to get there, but its worth it.
Santuario Madonna Della Costa dates back between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries i
The current structure of the sanctuary was built in 1630 to replace the previous church. The dome was built between 1770 and 1775. A new painting of the facade and the copper cladding of the dome and the two small domes were carried out between 1979 and 1981.
One should get a look at the awesome interior of the church.
Adnission is free, although a small donation will always be appreciated.

This is worth seeing. I suggest a taxi to get there, as its very steep. The views of the city from the church are breath-taking.

The church is on the top of quite a steep hil, or series of hills. Unfortunately the exterior of the church was covered in scaffolding and plastic at the time of our visit but the interior is worthy of the climb. The terrace surrounding the church has fantastic views all around.
When we left the church we walked directly to the port through some of the most interesting old buildings, so close the almost touched one another. Many of the buildings looked as though they had seen better days and some of the narrow streets were in need of repair however this didn’t distract from how interesting it was to wander through them on our way down to the port.

The Santuario Madonna Della Costa is perched high above the town of Sanremo and is well worth the uphill walk through the old town.
The interior of the church has to be seen, words simply will not do it justice.
There are also spectacular panoramic views across Sanremo and the surrounding area.

The view you get from here is spectecular, and the church itself is worth while the climb. You have to be aware though of its opening hours which are just two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon (last time I went 10 to 12 and 16 to 18). But even if it is closed you get a lovely view of the harbor and the city down below.

We inadvertently came across this beautiful church as a result of roadworks blocking our intended route. As everyone has said before me, quite the most beautiful place of worship, with views over the bay to die for.

Lovely church to visit. We liked the ceiling and the altarpiece. Also the angels in the front are sweet.

We came upon the Sanctuary after a long, hot climb through the Old Town.
Hot and tired we were but when you look up to it, all the fatigue disappears and you are spellbound, all the more so when you go inside. You just turn slowly around and marvel at what you see.
If you've walked up, you'll be glad you put a bottle of water in your ( man ) bag; there's no trattoria or osteria up here and you will welcome something to drink.
I'm not going to repeat what everyone else has said; it is an experience not to be missed.

Climbing up.through the old town to this church is just as good as the view. Definitely a "must do" in San Remo.

If you spend the effort to reach this place, you will see the best panoramic view of Sanremo. Monument is beautiful.

Hi....some great reviews on this Cathedral. Most people seem to emphasize that the climb up to it is steep. I would love to visit while in Sanremo on a cruise.....can anyone give me any idea of how far away it is from the port? How long does it take to get up the hill? Are there any bars, restaurants or cafes on route?
I would be most grateful if anyone can answer these questions.

hi. yup there are cafe and restaurants along the way (though not all serve good food) the Cathedral (depending on what route you take and how fast/slow you move up) may take around one hour and a half to two hours.
if you go to Sanremo the Cathedral is a must see. happy trip.
