Anyone passing through Valparola should make it an obligatory visit. The museum is full of Italian and Austrian memorabilia that tell the life and deeds of those who fought in those mountains. Visiting it even for the younger ones serves to make people understand the negativity of any war.

Museum right at the Pass close to Alta Badia is highly to recommend, certainly only for people who have some interest in WW I. Visiting the museum parking outside is complimentary.

Great Museum, in beautiful settings, it has very interesting exhibits. Advice to visitors: dress warmly, it can be very cold in Winter.

The Tre Sassi Fort at Valparola Pass is one of several locales commemorating WWI front in the Dolomites. It was built in 1897 to defend the southern border of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was subsequently modernized in 1910. After only a few weeks of war, the fortress was damaged by bombs fired from the 5 Torri, a Dolomite mountain occupied by the Italian army. Tre Sassi Fort was then evacuated. Today the Fort has been restructured into a museum displaying life in the Dolomites during WWI.

It was an interesting and unexpected stop, but there wasn’t much to see since we were ahead of its June 15 opening.

Very unusual museum, which originally was part of a fortification situate right at Valparola Pass. Free parking outside.
