The small Chapel to Saint Barbara (m 625 – h 1,45 from Riva del Garda), was built in 1935 by the miners who worked on the conduits of the Ponale power plant. It is placed in a horrid and daring, yet panoramic position, on the slope of Mount Rocchetta near the start of the penstocks feeding the hydroelectrical plant. The Chapel is visible from afar thanks to nighttime lighting.

I walked up here this morning in tennis shoes with no walking equipment and it was fine. You need to be a bit fit, I can jog 6k but am no climber and I managed it in an hour or so. It is an amazing...More

After walking up to the Bastion, we weren't really sure we wanted to go further. We started out and just kept going. Trail beyond the Bastion is really rough--perhaps even harder to come down because of the risk of slipping. For that, you get an...More

When visiting Riva del Garda, be sure to stop off at Santa Barbara Church. From the outside it just looks like an old building, however when you go inside the artwork and decor is breathtaking.

This is a wonderful walk (no special gear needed) up the side of the mountain overlooking the lake. Once you get there the views are spectacular. Walk down not good on the knees if they aren't in good shape. Takes about 2-3 hours there and...More

Well, not easy to get there, approximately 2 hours, you need good pair of trekking boots and get yourself up there because it is well worth it. Incredible views of the lake and surroundings and nice little church too..

Santa Barbara church / chapel is not for the faint hearted, and I don't mean the religious kind. The church can only be accessed by foot and is at least an hours strenuous climb out of Riva del Garda. Take the paved foot way at...More

A rugged hike, and well worth the vista! Bring some water, and wear some sturdy shoes. Bring your camera for the many photo opps.

This place is near Riva del Garda; You must walk one hour, more or less, to arrive in this picturess location. You can see the landscape of all the Garda lake.

Stopped off here and loved the architecture and the fact it's still very much a working church. One to see if in the area.

On my second visit to Riva Del Garda, I was determined to climb Monte Rocchetta and to reach The Santa Barbara Church as I was stopped by friend from reaching the summit during my last holidays to Riva Del Garda. As I started climbing and...More

The start of the route for both the Bastion and Santa Barbara is on SS45 and Via Bastion right by the roundabout and right under Villa Luisa.
