The history of the Rocca caste in Riva del garda dates back to the beginning of the 12th century, when the citizens of Riva were granted the right to build a new fortress on the lake shore. The course of history has left its mark on la Rocca which has been altered over th time. In the early 16th century, it was refurbished to make it a fitting temporary residence of the bishop princes. It underwent a radical transformation in the middle of the 19th century, when it was turned into an Austro-Hungarian barracks and lost all its medieval and renaissance features. Recent restoration work has revealed some of the original structures and made it a suitable home for the museum. Inside, you'll find quite an amazing collection of paintings and art, as well as archeological items. A nice alternative on a rainy day.…

The collection is very beautiful. The part on Riva history is very moving, as the town changed hands so many times. The building itself is stunning, done up very cleverly to house the museum. As we stayed in Riva, we got a card to get in for free, a pleasant surprise.

Went in, not knowing what to expect. Easily kept us entertained/informed for over 2 hours. Great exhibitions of art, photographs, archaeology, WW2 local items PLUS a great rooftop panorama!!
