About
Dates back to the 1124 agreement with bishop Altemanno, when the citizens of Riva were granted the right to build a new fortress on the lake shore. The course of history has left its mark on the Rocca which has been altered multiple times. In the early 16 century, it was refurbished to make it a fitting temporary residence of the bishop princes. It underwent a radical transformation in the mid-19th century, when it was turned into an Austro-Hungarian barracks and lost all its medieval and renaissance features. Recent restoration work has revealed some of the original structures and made it a suitable home for the museum. The view from the keep is truly magnificent.

Beautiful castle on the river of the lake with quadrangular bastions , bounded by a canal with drawbridge , it was the fortress of noble family Scaligeri , ( 1124 ) who became Lords of Verona.
Inside the castle you can visit MAG the Museum of high Garda ( now is closed for coronavirus)

Essential for those little items to take home especially leather and summer dresses for the ladies. Very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Overlooking Lake Garda, the views are unparalleled...leave time to just soak it all in. Parking can be interesting, and it is a long climb up from Riva del Garda, well worth a visit. Local restaurants in the area or pack a picnic and enjoy the weather.

Went in, not knowing what to expect. Easily kept us entertained/informed for over 2 hours. Great exhibitions of art, photographs, archaeology, WW2 local items PLUS a great rooftop panorama!!

Nice up-hill walk and incredible view once there. A must go in Riva del Garda. The last part is pretty steep, don't go if not averagly trained.

Rocca di Riva is a medieval fortress located on an artificial island, on the shore of Lake Garda.
It was built in 1124 in order to defend the port of the town, a strategic point for trade .

The history of the Rocca caste in Riva del garda dates back to the beginning of the 12th century, when the citizens of Riva were granted the right to build a new fortress on the lake shore.
The course of history has left its mark on la Rocca which has been altered over th time.
In the early 16th century, it was refurbished to make it a fitting temporary residence of the bishop princes. It underwent a radical transformation in the middle of the 19th century, when it was turned into an Austro-Hungarian barracks and lost all its medieval and renaissance features.
Recent restoration work has revealed some of the original structures and made it a suitable home for the museum.
Inside, you'll find quite an amazing collection of paintings and art, as well as archeological items. A nice alternative on a rainy day.

The collection is very beautiful. The part on Riva history is very moving, as the town changed hands so many times. The building itself is stunning, done up very cleverly to house the museum.
As we stayed in Riva, we got a card to get in for free, a pleasant surprise.

Very good museum/art gallery in a beautiful lakeside setting. Plenty going on outside too, with shops, cafes, street entertainers.
