It underwent a radical transformation in the middle of the 19th century, when it was turned into an Austro-Hungarian barracks and lost all its medieval and renaissance features. The collection is very beautiful. The part on Riva history is very moving, as the town changed hands so many times. The building itself is stunning, done up very cleverly to house the museum. As we stayed in Riva, we got a card to get in for free, a pleasant surprise.

Went in, not knowing what to expect. Easily kept us entertained/informed for over 2 hours. Great exhibitions of art, photographs, archaeology, WW2 local items PLUS a great rooftop panorama!!

Very good museum/art gallery in a beautiful lakeside setting. Plenty going on outside too, with shops, cafes, street entertainers.
