Spectacular trekking ring (about 7 km) with a very direct climb up the crest but with a ton of steps. Exceptional point views and a grand finale on the top of the fort where the panorama is lost in a 180 degree view along the glacial excavation which then gave rise to the lake. Then descend along the driveway (only for bikers and trekkers) and arrive at the starting point in Porto San Nicolò. Absolutely to be done only as addressed by us for the exaltation of the views

Excellent half-day excursion to Monte Brione. I accessed trekking route on 360gardalife.com
We started the trek at San Nicolo Forte at the harbour, walked upward towards Forte Garda, then to Batteria di Mezzo (middle battery / fort). Lots of olive trees/ plantation along the way.
Atop this fort, you'll get an amazing view of both Riva del Garda on one side and Torbole town on the other side of Monte Brione. Walking further up will lead you to a hilltop cross.
We continued further on towards Forte Sant' Alessandro which was fairly large compared to the first two forts, covering an extensive area to explore. Then we headed down to St. Alessandro area before walking back out to the lake.
Really good exercise and plenty of sights to explore.

Great views all the way up and at the top, but take sturdy footwear to go up, there are lots of steps and soil pathways some steps are double and you feel like you are climbing in some parts if you take kids up with you remember there are parts where it is dangerous to walk at the edges. coming down we come down the concrete road which is safer but boring and without the views over the lake. take plenty of water to drink because this time of year it is hot and no where to buy anything.

We walked from our hotel to this great hike. The trail is well marked and is a continuous grade climb up to the radio tower. It also hugs the cliff side and has a fence to protect you. The pictures from the various view points are amazing. The fort along the way is amazing. We truly enjoyed this hike and on the way down we were immersed in the olive trees. We will do this hike again

A short hike up Monte Brione (probably about an hour to the top) provides you with several places to stop and take in the view of Lake Garda, the river and the city. We did this every morning on our stay to start the day. All four of our children were able to complete the hike. You can also walk around an old military Fort midway up the mountain and at the top there is a provincial nature reserve that is beautiful and full of vegetation.

The Monte Brione is a relatively small hill which you can climb in under an hour. The view along the ridge is wonderful. The mountain was an important strategic point for the Austrian defence line. Therefore you will encounter multiple old shooting nests along the way. And on the top stands an old bunker built in 1860 (although lots of people think it are remains of WWI, it is much older). When you stand on top of the bunker a gorgeous panoramic unfolds, covering Torbole, Riva and Lago di Garda all at once. A must see in Riva.

I've been to Riva many times but had never taken the time to go up this small hill which separates Torbole and Riva. You access Monte Brione from Porto San Nicolli which is just before the walkway to Torbole which is 45 minutes from Riva (another lovely walk which most people do on their first visit to Riva) The start of the walk is just to the right past the marina. You'll see some steps going up to a fort type structure which is just before the walkway. When you go up these steps you'll see a sign saying Sentiero di Pace (Peace path). There are lots of view points all the way up. (at one point we went on to a small road which leads up to the masts which you can see at the top, but you can easily stay on the path at the edge and not go to the masts as you might want to just take photos at the wonderful viewpoint on the roof of the fort. We sauntered up one morning and it only took a couple of hours.

From the new port to the east of Riva del Garda a series of stone steps ascend past an ochre coloured building and quickly you are high above the lake with stunning views. On the early part of the ascent keep to the pathway with the wooden steps. These are set into the hillside and can be challenging to climb as with the constant erosion of the soil due to rain the steps can be over 300mm high. In most places you can walk around the steps. The wooden steps soon are replaced by natural rock and you will need to be sure footed in damp weather. The path is close to the precipitous eastern edge of Monte Brione and there are many benches to rest at and views of the Sarca river plain and Torbole to admire. On the ascent you will catch glimpses to your left of bikers ascending the cycle trail but they won't see all the abandoned fortifications that litter the path to the top. The walking route finishes at the two transmission towers but further walks on Monte Brione can be enjoyed by backtracking to the Batteria Di Mezzo ( which shouldn't be missed) and continuing on to Forte San Alessandro. One can either walk back down to the port via the path, and admire the views in reverse, or join the cycle track as it meanders down the hillside. If the latter route watch out for cyclists approaching from the rear at speed!

This is set in quite a spectacular location that looks almost unreal. It is an 8km walk from the centre of Riva or cycle if you have a bike. The journey goes by a lovely river and some vineyards which is nice. it is flat all the way until the final climb to the top which takes 15 minutes. Excellent vies back towards the lake.

I ran up here a couple of times (both early morning when slightly cooler). There are a variety of ways to reach the summits. One is primarily by road/Tarmac with a gravel path finish, whilst the other way is via a wooded path/trail with some steps built in. The views along the latter are outstanding. I would recommend this route up,although it is advisable to have decent footwear & a bottle of water to hand!
