Palazzo Magnani, from the exterior, looks much like any of the buildings on Corso Garibaldi. Walk up the stairs, enter thru the doors and you enter an amazing world of art. I will miss the Kandinsky exhibit that opens this fall but in the summer there is always a great photography exhibit - Michael Kenna, Weegee and many, many more are among the amazing photographers they have shown in conjunction with Fotografia Europa.

During my summer visits to Reggio Emilia I always make time to visit the galleries @ Palazzo Magnani. Always interesting - or thought provoking, or inspiring ... sometimes all three or more. Wee Gee - very interesting! Crime in the Big Apple. This year - Sex and Revolution! The April to July exhibits are connected to Fotografia Europea. In 9 years, I have disappointed.

This was such a different exhibit, and accessible to so many people, whether they were oriented to music or to visual art. It bridged the creative path from one to the other. There were many fabulous artist besides Kandinsky: di Stael, Klee... and other composers. Don't miss it!

This is the country estate of Luigi Magnani, an art collector who died in 1984. The collection contains art from the 14th through 20th centuries. It was difficult for me to recognize any unifying theme in the collection, other than that he just collected what he liked, or art created by his friends. (George Morandi is a good example.). However, it is fascinating to see an intact collection hung in the home of the collector. I would characterize the collection as primarily second-rate works by first-rate artists. The estate itself is beautiful, and it's a nice change of pace to see an art museum outside of the city.

Whenever I am in Reggio I never miss an opportunity to visit Palazzo Magnani. It is within walking distance of B&B Anna e Ricca and, in my opinion a real local treasure. I have seen exhibits so ranging from Michael Kenna to Wee Gee over the years. I have never been disappointed and I look forward to 2017.
