About
The Red Cows Consortium gathers the breeders of Red Cows of Reggiana's breed, a breed with a very ancient origin, arrived in our territories with Longobards around the year one thousend. From the milk of the Red Cows of Reggiana's breed is derived the Red Cows Parmigiano-Reggiano, with qualitative and organoleptic characteristics that are distinctive compared to the traditional Parmigiano-Reggiano.

The tour & tasting at the famous Consorzio Vacche Rosse Parmigiano Reggiano at Reggio Emilia was amazing. Finally checked the box to visit this amazing place. This is really an amazing experience but make sure that you make a reservation before you visit so that you can definitely do the tour and tasting 🐄 🧀 🥛

The consortium of the red cow has a funny name but there's nothing funny about the product being made here. The flavours here are phenomenal and the staff are friendly and extremely helpful. If you have the time, take a tour and learn all you can. Make sure to ask the staff for a tasting of all the ages of the cheeses and they'll gladly oblige. the 24, 30 adn 40 month varietals are very different and all delicious. On your way home, grab some butter for your bread, some parmeseano for dinner and make sure you grab a panecotta, as they're divine! Thanks to all the staff for a fantastic experience!

We went as a family to see how their parmigiano is made. Usually they require a reservation but they showed us around anyway. The guide was extremely nice, polite and the tour was very informative and interesting. It was a great experience throughout. You could see they really care about their product and the superb conditions in which it is made. At the end we got to taste the actual cheese at various stages of maturity (which was delicious) and naturally, we left their shop laden with cheese. You do have to pay for the tour but it is definitely worth it. A must see!

Totally a waste of time. I'd been looking forward to visiting this place for months. We called to see if we could join a tour within a few days and were told no they were too busy, but that's fair enough as they do say on their website to book 20 something days in advance worth an ask because it worked for a tour of a balsamic vinegar place in Modena). Anyway we went there just to buy something and maybe see a nice display but the drive there is ugly the factory looks like a detention centre the shop front is nothing special and there is only vacuum sealed 1kg blocks of cheese to buy. No tastings no fancy big wheels of cheese to see, nothing. I'm sure that they make good cheese (even though I haven't tried it) but it's not a tourist destination unless your schedule allows you to book a tour weeks in advance then maybe it's ok but even then having seen it I wouldn't bother.

This was a highlight of our entire trip to Italy. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and really went out of the way to make the tour enjoyable. You really get to see the factory in motion and watch the workers make the cheese from a few feet away (in full PPE, of course). We were so awed by the tradition and care that goes into making the products, and getting to taste the 24, 30+, and 40+ month aged cheese at the end was among the best cheese I've ever tasted. This is a can't-miss experience in Emilia-Romagna and all of Italy.

The old professor at the factory only speaks Italian, but there's a English translator if you book the tour early. The professor is very detailed and share with us his knowledge and passion in cheese at every stage of the making. It's a pity we do not understand Italian and lost part of the knowledge in translation. Very good cheese, and now we understand more of how it's made by seeing and tasting.

There's only two of us and they entertained us, we really appreciates it.

Must buy their cheese, I prefer the 24 months, it's has a really good aroma and extremely clean taste after eating. No need to drink wine to wash it down.

A must visit if you go near Bologna

We had a bit of trouble finding it even though we had a GPS. We were close and phoned and Tania, who drove to where we were so we could follow her to the factory. Sara was our guide and gave us a great tour followed by a tasting of different aged cheeses. There was no fee and there was no pressure to buy, but we could not resist getting a pound of Parmesan. Sarah was a pleasure to spend time with and was quite knowledgable about the process.

We booked a tour about 4 weeks in advance and Tomaso greeted us at the entrance. His tour was fun and thorough. We were able to see all stages of parmigiano reggiano during the 2 hour visit and taste a couple samples at the end. If you want to know how it’s really made, this tour is for you.
