- Guaifun ASan Francisco, California39 contributionsAmazing Family ExperienceAttended a wedding for a family member and stayed at Villa Piedimonte. That Villa was the best. Clean and modern with excellent service. Provided shuttle service to the town. Wedding was held at a spartan church, Chiesa a Santa Maria di Gradillo and walked through town to Villa Eva at the other end. Like something out of a movie. Towns people and locals watched us clapping. Very medieval with all the charms. Ate lots of mozzarella cheese and drank wine from the region. Ate several times at Ristorante Vittoria conveniently located at the middle of town where Maria, our server, made us feel like locals. Grazie Mille! Took a scooter down to Minori and Māori for cappuccino and nothing could be more breath taking than an early morning ride down the windy streets to the shoreline towns. Avoided Amalfi because of the crowds and totally satisfied at my stay in Ravello. Checked out the famous Villa Cimbrone and it was stunning. Just like advertised. Unfortunately, couldn’t fine dine there because I didn’t rent a room. The town square and the Duomo is the central attraction. Great to people watch and have breakfast or lunch, al fresco. If you don’t care to be with the crowds (Amalfi, Positano) and enjoy less bustle with easy access to those towns, this is the place.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 10, 2023
- Stephen K23 contributionsBreathtaking Ravello walk from MinoriYes there was 1500 steps up and the same coming back down however this walk should not be missed. Take your time and just enjoy the views. I would however say if it was the middle of Summer I would think twice. However breathtaking at the top with visits to the two main Villas and gardens. A must to do.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 21, 2024
- Megumi HFinland478 contributionsA taste of Amalfi walkAmalfi coast is beautiful but is very difficult to stop a scooter at places you want to take photos. So I decided to walk from Ravello to Minori while my partner went down with scooter. Glad that I walked from Ravello down to Minori. Going up all these stairs is much harder. I took my time to enjoy the view and to take pictures. It took about an hour. It was hot but the walk was quite doable.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 7, 2024

I read the reviews and saw that several older couples considered this an easy hike, as long as you take it slow and bring water. I am 55 and I'm used to walking 3-5 miles in the Texas heat, so I thought this would be fine. It was NOT. First, there are water taps along the way, but they were shut off, so we only had the water we brought. The heat was unbearable, even at 9am. The views were beautiful, but not any better than from the towns all around. I made it 3/ 4 of the way and then came upon a road and took a bus the rest of the way. It may be worth it to hike DOWN from Ravello to Minori, but unless you are a serious athlete, it is NOT worth walking up.

Lovely way to see these two towns and the surrounding coast and countryside. View gets better the higher you go. We walked the steps up from Minori to Ravello with a group (ages 60 - 70) and though it is not an easy trip, if you pace yourself, have plenty of water, and good company, it will be great. Took just over an hour.

Ravello was so beautiful and quaint. The food was amazing. The vistas top notch. We walked the steps down to Minori which turned out to be harder than expected. I think there’s 1700! It was also hot when we did this so it made it that much harder. When you get to the bottom you’re pretty much on the highway and you have to figure out how you’re getting back to Amalfi.

I got the bus up from Amalfi and walked down to Minori. The walk down was hard enough so can't imagine doing it in reverse. There are so many steps, pretty much vertical all the way down. But worth doing at least once, and at least the paths were quite shaded when I did it and to walk amongst the countryside and how locals must live day to day is amazing. We'll sign posted so you can't get lost.

It was a lovely walk with fabulous views but beware if you struggle with steps or have a pushchair. Wear sensible shoes and take water. We saw many lizards some bourses carrying lemons and many fine views. Well sign posted. Great to have option of boat back to Amalfi. We went down from Villa rufolo to Maiori.

This is a relatively easy walk, commencing at the stairs near Villa Ruffolo and descending all the way to Minori Along the way you enjoy panoramic views of cliffs, gardens and the glittering sea. A number of pretty churches that you can drop by too. It took us little over an an hour at a leisurely pace. It's all one direction with some "Minori" signposts too, so easy to find your way.

First of all this area is breathtaking......it is a little piece of heaven by the sea. My Daughter and Sister and I just came back from a stay of 5 nights in this area and we just loved it.....walking is hilly on the upside, and you should be in good condition to be in this area, as the little towns in this area all have winding, lovely, streets......streets are narrow, and cars and tour buses on the main road go zipping by on the left side........people are very friendly, wonderful wines, and food we would all go back in a heartbeat......I am a travel agent, and loved this area.......the walk actually begins at the bottom of the road that takes you up to Ravello....the walk from this point should take approx. 1/2 hour........if you walked from the town of Ravello to Minori it would be a good 3 hour walk down hill..............there is a bus from Amalfi to Ravello that departs every hour....you can get off at the turn to Ravello and walk downhill to Minori from this point..........

Circa 45 minuti percorsi con calma per godersi la visuale. Ci sono molte fontane lungo il tragitto

Is the walk down from Ravello very intimidating for those afraid of height? I'm ok if there are little walls along the steps, but open railings that look immediately over a cliff would be a little rough. I've gone up the cliffs of Santorini Greece with no problem, because it was walled in - not open railings..... Thoughts? In my mind (however irrational) I'm going to slip through the railing and plummet to my death.

I would not say it is intimidating as you are not near cliffs or the ocean. Be aware though that is steep. You drop 350 metres in altitude. I have just finished the walk in a hot day and feel very rewarded.

Were exactly did you start the trail in Minori as my wife and I are looking to do the same thing?

Enjoy! The Amalfi Coast is breathtaking.!
I started the Path Steps in Minori.( I actually found Minori a perfect place to stay,as it is a central point to the other coastal towns , that you can reach by hopping on a boat for a few euros ( to Positano/Salerno) or walking the coastal road from Minori to Atranti /Amalfi ( you can get some amazing pictures on the walk to these places).
If you look at a map or view of Minori , you will see that the narrow coastal road curves around , and has a hairpin turn, that goes past the hotel Maison Raphael,. You walk up the turn past the Mais. Raph. and continue on a short way . The stairs leading up to the Minori/Ravello Path steps are on the right hand side.... a local resident could easily direct you ,or ask Antonio at the Mais. Raph. .he speaks english and is helpful..
There are a few signs once you are on the path , to help direct you to Ravello.. Part way up the pathsteps, there is a beautiful church cemetery that you can go into .. it's worth a picture
The walk to Ravello is a good hike.. but worth it. Once at the top, have lunch at the Villa Maria hotel/restaurant.( I made a mistake below calling it the Santa Maria.. sorry.. It is the Villa Maria Restau/.hotel.). . they have outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the valley.. quite romantic too , your wife would enjoy it. The french fries are so yummy , you must try them too
I am going to be back there in Sept, and I can't wait !!.
Have a wonderful time!!

I started the trail in Minori ( I actually found Minori the perfect place to stay,as it is a central point to all the coastal towns, that you can reach by hopping on a boat for a few euros or walking the coastal route ie to Atrani/Amalfi)
Minori is quaint with a lovely seaside promenade , great and safe in the evenings.
if you look at a map or arial view of Minori you will see that the narrow coastal road curves around, has a hairpin turn, that goes by the hotel Maison Raphael,. You walk up the turn past the M. R. and continue on a short way. The stairs leading up to the Minori/Ravello pathsteps are on the right hand side.... a local resident or Antonio at the Mais. Raph. can easily direct you.
Part way up the many and varied steps there is a lovely little church cemetery, that you can enter into; and is worth a picture
The walk to Ravello is a good hike but so worth it. Have lunch at the Santa Maria hotel/restaurant. They have outdoor eating with a panoramic view of Ravello .(Try the french fries tooo ...sooo yummy!)
Enjoy your vacay! The Amalfi Coast is beautiful!

How many actual steps are there; and how many kilometres does it work out to be going up and a return down? I walked it 4 times in Sept.2016.... I loved Ravello.

I have no idea. You should have done it 5 times and counted!

We are going to be in this area in July and am wondering about transportation. We will be taking a car from positano to ravello and it will be dropping us off. Somehow we need to get from Ravello to Minuta either by taxi or bus. I can't find any bus information so am wondering if taxis are readily available in the area. We will be walking from Minuta down to amalfi. Any information you could tell me would be really helpful.
Thanks everybody.
