Pozzuoli is billed in travel books as being a town filled with archaeological sites. When one arrives in Pozzuoli one is greeted with litter, bad signage, and several easy-to-find archaeological sites which are overgrown with weeds and covered in trash. I never made it to the top archilogical site (the Flavian Amphitheater) because of bad signage and general disgust with the city. The street address above marks roughly the center point of the city.

It´s near the train station ( Pozzuoli - Naples), so either way why not get off for a while and see this place. it´s interesting because this place was once underwater and nowadays is back to the surface but all this took many centuries due...More

This is the 3rd Roman amphitheater we have visited and by far the best preserved. It needs more advertising as it is simply superb especially the subterranean areas.

These ruins are truly beautiful. Although you can't really get down into the site, you can walk around the perimeter and see it from all angles. One curious sight is the many resident stray cats, who seem to survive on scraps from the adjacent fish...More

This a interesting little ruin to visit. It only takes a few minutes, is located in a very intersting suburb of Naples, and is typical of much of the real Italy. Just a part of everyday life, enough local life a few steps away yo...More

Poorly signposted. We had a long walk round Pozzuoli and couldn't find it. we were going off the local tourist authority maps and are pretty good at finding our way around but this one eluded us.

Amazing underground part The temple of Serapis is perfectly integrated in the Pozzuoli town. I was here in rainy weather, if you can choose weather, sunny day is better.

The story of this site is more interesting than the site itself. Basically you see only three columns in a row and some column stumps in a former Tholos. However this comes to life when you realize that all this was 3 metres below sea...More
