About
Offering some peace and quiet from the crowded Spiaggia Grande, Fornillo is a hidden gem that’s popular with the locals. The black pebble beach is around 984 feet long and is flanked by two towers at either end. You can reach Fornillo via a 10-minute walk from the main beach, or by descending hundreds of steps from the top of Positano. Plan ahead to visit during the Fish Festival, where there’s live music, dancing, a market selling fish cooked in all ways and a complimentary glass of wine for each visitor. – Tripadvisor

- Sanka1 🇱🇰🇬🇧Bicester, United Kingdom6,312 contributionsA must visitVisited on a Sunday afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet perhaps due to off season. The pebble beach and the views from ground level up is amazing and a must see if you're travelling around Amalfi coast. There are lots of steps to get down and recommend taking a bus when you go back up to street levels as it's quite a climb. Disappointed that most of the restaurants are closed off season.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- Rafaella S3 contributionsGreat for bathingAn excellent sea for bathing. Super nice. It has the part of restaurants and umbrellas, which is paid (around 30-45 euros per person). For those who want to take a sea bath and don't mind sitting on the beach, you can stay in the public area. The bath is excellent and, although I went in July, it was quite quiet. I only recommend coming early (at 10:00 was enough) to have a more pleasant experience. And it is worth noting that the beach is of stones, it hurts a little foot, but it can bear.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 12, 2024
- S H1 contributionPositano Italy In OctoberWife and I stopped in and stayed at Positano for 6 days to round out the second half of our bigger trip. Traffic and tourism in Positano in October winds down but is still very busy. The shops are still open and surprisingly busy as this is the beginning of their "Winter" season and soon will close for several months. Mopeds buzzing everywhere. We loved our hotel, views and great food that Positano had to offer. Bring your walking shoes and be prepared, to walk, walk, walk, steps, steps, steps. Thankfully, our hotel had a shuttle which saved us walking a few times! We did a private boat tour to Capri, stopped for lunch at Lo Scoglio on the sea. Great ambience and food and was a good day to be on the sea. Also hiked The Path Of The Gods. The route we took was pretty rocky and difficult since we had an early rain which made everything extra slick. Thankfully it was cool. If we were to do it all over again, we would probably make it a 5 day stay and used that extra day elsewhere in our trip.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 14, 2024

Much nicer and more private beach. Run by a beach club, around 100€ for 4 ppl, spread over 2 sections, not too hard to find, can walk there. Beach is medium pebbles, water is cleaner and fewer people on the small section. When we were there, there were strong winds and we were flooded out of the place, but so was all of Positano beaches. If you’re coming from neighbouring towns and the ferry is cancelled I would not recommend taking bus, but of a nightmare.

The restaurant charged $25 per chair and umbrella for chairs at least 3 rows back from the water. No waiters ever came by to take orders. Still, the view was incredible and the water was crystal clear. The water and beach were not crazy crowded either. Not a very far walk from the main beach.

When you arrive at the beautiful Positano you are struck by how busy and crammed it can be although it is very pretty. If you stand with the sea to your back, you will see a walkway up to left which takes you to a smaller bay Forniello. Lovely photo opportunities on the way. You can hire sun beds and the sea is lovely. The beach bar/shop just as you come down into the beach is awesome and great value for money. Light relief from crowds and being ripped off (€24 for 2 cokes in Positano is being ripped off in my book).

Exaggerated prices!!!
Four of us spent 120 euros!!!
Entrance costs 30 euros per person (even if you have children!)
Sea with stones and not very clean
The road to get there from the main road is tiring.

The beach is nice overall, it’s pretty, crystal clear water, great for swimming. However it’s only rocks all the way, not very enjoyable. The worst part is that is very expensive to be there, you need to pay 30 euros per chair just to seat there. There’s almost no space to seat on your own towel if you don’t want to pay for the chair, and definitely no shade without paying.

the beach is a nice beach - BUT NOT IN AUGUST! It's crowded and hot, your feet get burnt. We stayed at the Fratelli Grassi Beach Club and I would not recommend it. The attitude of the staff was so rude, very average food, top prices for a very low service. And although we paid for a whole week for beds and umbrellas..they didn't even offer a free boat service from the harbor to Fornillo Beach... as they take a break at lunchtime. Honesty such a bad attitude, it is not worth a visit

Small, pebbly beach just a pleasant short walk from the port. Sunbeds cost a ridiculous amount e.g, 40-50 euros per person for 1 sun bed and they are packed together so closely that you can hardly move. The public area is at the far end and is very small. Can’t understand why anyone would bother.

This beach is reachable by taking a 15 minute walk up and down stairs from Positano main beach. The location makes it less busy and it is embedded between rocks and cliffs. We really enjoyed the day there and can definitely recommend this place. There are several nice but pricey beach resorts where you can rent umbrellas and stuff or then at the very end there is a spot where you can put your towel for free.

Much quieter than Spiagga Grande with clearer water. We have 3 tips:
1. Have reef shoes as the rocks getting in and out of the water are tough
2. Be prepared to walk a lot of stairs to get here.
3. Head to the left where there are blue umbrellas, it’s smaller, quieter and cheaper beds to rent - €20 pp compared to €30 on the right side of the beach.

Fornillo is no joke - those stones get hot and will burn your feet! Otherwise, this was a beautiful place to relax, sunbathe, swim in the sea, and enjoy the beauty of Positano without the chaos. We rented 4 loungers and 2 umbrellas for less than 80 E and enjoyed about 5 hours there before heading back to our water taxi for Praiano (gorgeous and way less chaotic than Positano).

What is included with beach chair rental? Do you get towels, drink, or food included?

How do you get to Fornillo beach ? Do we need to make reservations or how does it work? Should we take a taxi to Fornillo beach ? Please explain. Thank you

You can easily reach Fornillo beach by walking the path above the port of Positano. You will see a path on the right past the ticket booths. Just follow that up and around and you will be at Fornillo beach in 5 min. It is a beautiful walk overlooking the water.
We did not make reservations and were able to get umbrellas and beach chairs in June. You may (?) need to get there early during the high season if you want a spot.

Thanks for your note about Fornillo Beach! Are there different places to rent lounge chairs, and do they provide towels or do we need to bring our own? Thanks!
Written August 9, 2019
There are at least two vendors for loungers and they are well positioned and easy to spot when you access the beach. There was a temporary kiosk that supplied towels and cushions during our visit but as we brought our own towels I can speak for the quality of the towels or their cost.
You will enjoy the beach and if you are based nearby I believe the hotels can get you a special deal on lounger, brolly and dining experience. Again we didn't take up the packages as we were based in Sorrento and just visiting for a few hours but those that were seemed very happy with their experience.

Ciao a tutti... A settembre andrò un giorno a Positano.. Volevo passare un paio di orette in spiaggia.. Volevo sapere se il comune mette a disposizione qualke doccia e spogliatoio o bisogna appoggiarsi a qualke lido. Grazie

Hi, do you happen to know where parking might be available?
Thanks!
Written June 11, 2019
Sorry about the response prior......someone asked about a restaurant in Rome...and I answered on your space...
Fornilla Beach is accessed by walking only. Since Positano has very limited space and even less roadways by cars....the best suggestion I have is go by ferry. Come from Sorrento....you have more parking there then you would ever have in Positano. Have a terrific boat ride.... get off....take the left concrete pathway that goes up after the ferry ticket booths...and that will take you directly to beach.
