Was very surprised at how much there was to see and learn about inside the Castle Doria! Especially loved that it was right in the heart of Portevenere and we didn't have to travel to see it! Wonderful views of the harbor from the Castle!

Lots of stairs to get up to the top but you are rewarded with not only stunning views, but amazed at how the could possible have built this place up the hill with its commanding view of the harbor and town.

It dominates the town. Worth the climb for the stunning views, the Castello is not to be missed when in Portovenere.

The Doria family left quite a legacy here in Portovenere. Tourism has brought enormous new opportunities to the community.

Not a lot to see in the castle itself, but its worth the long uphill walk through the old town for spectacular views

If for no other reason the entrance fee (€5) is worth it just for the view. They could do so much more with this space, I'm sure there's local artisans that would happily set up their arts, crafts and food if given the opportunity.
