It is quite the hike to the Summer house, luckily we got a ride most of the way. Built in Tuscan style with formal gardens, it is a cheerful home for an exile. The garden walls overlook the sea with vast vistas.

Napoleon was detained here in 1814, and joined by his sister Pauline. His rooms are on display with access to the gardens overlooking the sea. When I was there, several townspeople were dressed in period time clothing, which added a nice touch. There are some...More

We have been fascinated by the island of Elba since reading the "Count of Monte Cristo" and it was further enhanced by the movie with Jim Caviezel. We just couldn't pass up the opportunity to take the ferry out to Elba when we were so...More

Quite a walk to the top of the hill where the Napoleon house is located on the prominent position with the view to the sea and city, but worth it. You walk through the rooms and get the insight of Napoleons life on Elba. The...More

Our cruise provided a guided tour which walked up the steep streets from the pier to the residence located at the top of the citadel area. The street views on the way up are worth lots of pictures both of the flowers as well as...More

I thought he was exiled in a dungeon! Rather, it was quite beautiful. The views from his rooms looking out to the sea are so stunning. Yes, it's' a series of rooms connected, nothing like Versailles or Hampton Palace, and nothing quite as extravagant, but...More

It's just a bunch of old furniture napoleon used to have in his residence. No background information about his exile at Elba. Just some explanations where the furniture has been built. Very disappointing. The price is really high for looking at furniture. Sometimes the information...More

Napoleon museium houses examples of furnishings and decor of the era. Not sure if they are authentic to his stay there but in beautiful condition and well displayed and the entrance fee of 5 euros each wasn't excessive. The gardens could do with a green...More

We had a very enjoyable afternoon visit to the residence. A charming walk through Portoferraio old town leads up to the top of the hill where Napoleon stayed on Elba. If this is exile, I want in!!! The house itself and 'museum' is ok. Doesn't...More
