Amazing walking tour of Pistoia

Throughout this two-hour walking tour, uncover the beauty and mysteries of this city!
Starting from the Piazza San Francesco d'Assisi, your guide will lead you to one of the many monuments that will be idolized on this tour, the Church of San Giovanni Fuorcivitas.
Continuing to our next destination is the Piazza del Duomo, which encompasses some of the most important buildings in the city. The domination of the square, however, belongs to the ancient bell tower. Progressing on to the next locations, there are the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Corte and the Cathedral of San Zeno. Inside these Cathedral contains the Treasure of San Jacopo, along with its famous Silver Altar.
In the Piazza del Duomo, three important buildings exist: Palazzo Vescovile (the residence of the bishops until 1700), Palazzo Pretorio (currently the seat of the court), and the Palazzo Comunale.
At the conclusion of the tour, our final stop will be at the famous Pieve di Sant 'Andrea.

The museum is located in the beautiful Palazzo del Commune at the central square of Pistoia. It was founded in the late 19th century, to be officially opened in 1922. There are numerous paintings, sculptures and artefacts on display in the museum, mostly the works of art made by prominent local and Florentine artists. Very interesting museum well worth the visit.

Being over 60 this museum is free of charge, or else a few EUR. If you expect a Florence type super museum you are not satisfied here. But we enjoyed a rather extensive collection of paintings from the 12th to the 19th century very much and would recommend it to people who are ready to slow-down and enjoy Pistoia in more than a 4 hour run-through. See as well the nice ceiling paintings in the building right opposite - that building has public access in the basement.

Located in the centre of town this museum is key to understanding the area and especially the duomo. Guided tours, in English and Italian, cost a few euros with staff that are very knowledgeable. There is also a section of the museum that is in braille for the sightless. Our tour took a little over an hour and I felt like I understood a lot more about the history of Pistoia. Recommended!

Pistoia is a lovely little town and this museum is well located in the centre. It is not large and only takes a short time to visit. A well -trained and informative guide is assigned to take you around. Tour times are on the door. If you're only in the town for a short time, you'll still have time for a tasty lunch. And a bro use around the shops.
