We wandered down to the church because my friend had bought a very large poster of the marble angels on display there. The church had been transformed into an exhibit with many statues --15th century sculpture of St. Sebastian, various apostles, and two glorious sculptures of the Annunciation displayed where the altar would have been. From the church you can walk to the city walls with views over all of Umbria.

Outstanding and huge marble statues in the former Church of S. Agostino. These were removed from the interior of the duomo, and are well worth a visit. The visit is included in the combined ticket for the Duomo. It is at the other end of the town. Don't miss the views to the valley from here. We visited this last, and were totally exhausted, so took the free shuttle bus back to where we were parked in Piazza Cahen. The stop is just adjacent to the museum and runs every 20 minutes. Ask the museum attendant, she was very helpful

I visited this beautiful place several years ago and loved it so much that my husband was really looking forward to his visit this August. He was certainly not disappointed. The church was restored in 1724. The current exhibition includes monumental statues from the 1600s. Atmospheric music accompanies your visit and you are allowed to get really close to the beautiful works of art which were removed from the Duomo in 1896. It is a privilege to be able to visit the church of St Agostino.

This is a church from the XV century which had been transformed in a museum. It is part of M.O.D.O., and has inside nowadays some of the statues originally from the interior of the Duomo of Orvieto.

This 14th century church is interesting in itself and is located near the end of the tufa bluff of Orvieto, affording fabulous views over the countryside. However, it’s greatest claim to fame is the fact that it now houses the series of monumental statues of the apostles, which used to line the nave of the Orvieto Duomo. These are by some of the most important 17th century sculptors, including Francesco Mochi, an associate of Bernini who did the statue of Saint Veronica in the crossing of Saint Peter’s in Rome. In addition to sculpting several of the apostles, he also sculpted an Annunciation group, which was also located in the Duomo and is now in this church. Alta Macadam, author of many of the Blue Gides to Italy, calls these statues of Gabriel and the Virgin, among the world’s most beautiful. They were certainly stunning. I rather wish they had decided to leave the statues in the Cathedral, but it was fascinating to see them as a group in this lovely former church. Highly recommended!

Amazing work by Francesco Mochi and others showcased here in this small old church a short walk out of the center of town. The "Annunciation" is breathtaking!!! (1603-08). The marble statues of the "Apostles" is remarkable. They were created between the end of XVI-XVII for the Cathedral. They were removed from there, placed in the church basement, and brought out and refurbished maybe ten years ago. What a gift to view these priceless works of heart and art. Loved the artwork/drawings of angels depicted on the walls. Forgot to ask docent about them, sorry to say. All worth spending time viewing and reflecting.
