Wonderful experience! Their location has an amazing view, beautiful buildings and wine-stocks as far as the eye can see. Maurizio was such a great tour guide and you could really feel his excitement and interest in the wine production and history of the area. The cooking class was so much fun. A very memorable experience cooking with a local and we were so full. Their wine is very tasty and we had to bring some bottles home! Highly recommend everyone to give themselves this experience.

We were a group of six women staying in Orvieto. Anna Rita arranged our taxi to Decugnano (20 euros p/p). It was a lovely 30 min. drive We thought the outing was just for us, but another group of about 8 joined us for the wine tour and cooking. It was very hot and hilly. 3 of us decided to skip the wine tour and waited for everyone in the chapel where the cooking class was held. We got to meet the wonderful Rosana, our instructor chef, before the others arrived. One single table was set for a meal for all of us. The other table had wooden boards and rolling pins. We helped prepare several dishes with all fresh ingredients...3 different kinds of bruschetta, a pasta , stuffed eggplant entrée and cookies. All the food was so good. Each course was paired with their delicious wine. We went home with the recipes, aprons, and hundreds of great photos. The outdoor surroundings are beautiful. Great fun and excellent meal. Highly recommend. Grazie!

Dear GardaGal0912, We would like to thank you for your time and effort. This summer was the hottest on record, we have never encountered temperature like 2017! We glad, however, you had a good time with your friends, hopefully you might try the recipes at home! All the best! Anna Rita

The tour started with Anna Rita telling us about the history of the Barbi Family and the vineyard. She was highly knowledgable and interesting. We traveled to the production facility and eventually to the caves where the sparkling wine and barrels were stored. I highly recommend wearing shoes appropriate for a hike on a steep gravel path. After the tour of facilities, the group split into two: those staying for the cooking class and those beginning their wine tasting.

The cooking class has been one of the best experiences of our month-long stay in Italy. My husband is an experienced cook and I am experienced in small kitchen explosions. I greatly dislike cooking but had a great time in this class. Each student received an apron and was put to work. We learned to make tagliatelle and wine cookies. It was great fun! After we had done the preparations, the patient chef shooed us out to drink wine while she finished up the cooking. The setting was beautiful! We had our meal in an old chapel. Anna Rita was there to serve wine and tell us about each one. She, along with the other couples in our class, made the entire experience spectacular.

It cost €100 per person and was completely worth it. When I think of the tour, the tasting (full glasses) with dinner, the class, eating a four course meal, the apron, food to take home, and a print out of the recipes, I think it was an excellent deal. I have taken a cooking class in the past and felt really stupid and never ended up making the dishes again. My husband and I have recreated with ease 4 of 5 items in the past two weeks.

Book this class immediately!

A wonderful day at this beautiful vineyard! Anna provided great service including her prompt email responses prior to our visit. She arranged transportation for us from Orvieto and we did not have to worry about a thing. Great fun in our small (8 person) cooking class with real hands-on experience and delicious food and wine! We could not have asked for anything more. A real find! Plus, the best red wine we sampled in our 2-week trip to Italy.

A highlight of our trip to Umbria! We traveled with friends and we four had a memorable evening at Decugnano dei Barbi -- tour, cooking class and dinner with wine tasting. Anna Rita arranged a wonderful time. Illiana, our cook and teacher, was very patient and enjoyed our "techniques" in the kitchen. The men retreated outside to enjoy the stunning views with cigars while we ladies whipped up pizza, focaccia, pasta, and more. It was a great cooking class of simple dishes but with the freshest of ingredients and the results - splendido! Dinner was even better with the wine pairings. The views from Decugnano dei Barbi of Orvieto are amazing, the property beautiful and the evening couldn't have been better. Highly recommend time at Decugnano dei Barbi.

Dear Beth R, A warm thank you to you and your friends! We have thought of our cooking classes as a complete experience, so clients can go back home with a real sense of having done something authentic. Our wines belong to our soil, together with the simplicity of our cuisine. The smells of the fresh herbes, the home made pasta prepare solely by hand, the sweetness of the cherries tomatoes with fresh basil, all paired with our wines in an extraordinary setting. Thank you for given us the opportunity to express all our passion for wine and food traditions. Anna Rita and Iliana

We didn't have quite the time others talked about. We had a very long, boring, detailed wine tasting tour! Then our cooking class wasn't very hands on, only a few things to do and a few people did it, the rest of us watched. I was interested in the part that happens in the kitchen and we were at a table in the dining room. Our first course was potato pizza, they said it's famous in Umbria, yet I've never seen it on the menu and it wasn't very tasty. The veal was boiled and I thought wow that is going to be tough and it was. The pasta and mushroom dish was good and the wine was good. The event lasted waaay longer than it should have. I did message the customer service manager and she was sweet and apologized and said they hired someone new but that doesn't make our event any better. They may need to work closer with their employees or maybe they should be a little more involved themselves!

Dear maddy6046, Thank you for feedback, in many years of cooking classes you are the only person to have complained. We are sorry you did not enjoy the class, however did not help to arrive late despite my directions and warning. We are constantly trying to improve the quality of our service and the entire team has been warned. Until recently I was personally involved in the class, unfortunately I cannot anymore for health problems. We all take our job very seriously and we will make sure to meet everyone needs as we have done so far. Kind regards Anna Rita

The tour was informative and lively. The wine we had with each course was excellent. The chef was very professional and helped us make a delicious dinner. IF you have problems with gluten, this might not be the place for you to eat.

Thank you irishiiis for your review. All our menus are tailor-made, therefore if there is a request of gluten free menu we will adapt as for vegetarian, cheese, or shellfish intolerant clients. However, these specific requests, must be asked ahead and cannot be mentioned on the day of the class. We specifically ask clients on each of our proposal if they have any specific allergies. I hope this may clarify to other members of our community that we are opened to all solutions. Kind regards Anna Rita

My husband and I travelled to Orvieto on our honeymoon this past summer. Our guidebook recommended the traditional cooking class with wine pairings at Decugnano Dei Barbi and it could not have been more right! After a tour of the winery, including going down into the cellars that were originally used in the 13th century by monks, we headed back up the hill for our cooking class. Although our chef didn't speak English, she still managed to be very demonstrative and helpful while being helped by Clara, our interpreter and guide for the day. After "slaving away" in the kitchen for a couple hours, we were seated in the converted chapel for our lunchtime meal, served with pairings from the Estate. The wine, food and overall experience were absolutely fantastic. This was definitely one of the most memorable experiences of our trip.

Shortly after moving to Italy, I took a weekend excursion to Orvieto and my friends and I booked this cooking class. We had a fantastic time! About a year later, I took another cooking class in Sorrento and it didn't even come close to comparing to the one at Decugnano Dei Barbi! We were picked up at our agriturismo and driven out to the site. After a short tour of the vineyard, we went into the converted chapel to start the cooking class. The woman who taught us was just wonderful. She didn't speak English but our interpreter was also fantastic. We learned a lot but had fun in the process. Our class was made up of several groups, some families, some friends, and everyone had a great time. After we prepped all the food, we then sat down to the table where we were served all the food that we'd prepared and it was paired with wines from the winery! Afterward we were able to purchase wine and olive oil produced on the estate. It was the most fun I've had with a cooking class and it was a very full day! I would recommend this to any of my friends and family visiting the Orvieto area.

Anna Rita welcomed us as if we were family. The tour of the vineyard and caves was so interesting and informative and relaxed. Rosanna gave us cooking instructions and encouraged us to "try this at home". Next came dinner with wine pairings that you can only imagine. Thank you Anna Rita for your expertise and your warmth. We felt like we were sitting around a huge table of friends.
If you only do one wine tour, make it Decagnano Dei Barbi!
