This church is a Gardena valley simbol.
It is located above Ortisei and can be well reached also from Santa Cristina, following the "path of the legend", that is telling the hiker the legend of the church and St.James.
Definitely worth a visit, a real jewel with magnificent surroundings on the Sasso Lungo and Sasso Piatto

The walk from Ortisei to San Giacomo starts near the main Catholic church - follow Str. Sacun until you see a sign called the "Dialog" way on the left. It goes up through a gravelly path eventually leading further up the hill along a large muddy track.

Make sure you have good shoes and make sure you pace yourself - it's uphill all the way to the church so don't rush it.

When you get to the church it's worth it - there's a small rise next to it, go up and take some photos of the church with the Dolomites in the background.

When we went, the church was closed so I have no idea of what's inside. Still, worth the photo!

Going back to Ortisei is super easy, it's downhill all the way and it took me just 30 minutes.

The hike from Ortisei towards the Church of San Giacomo is not a simple one, it takes some condition to walk this path.
But the church is worth every step you take.
Can highly recommend to visit.

We left off from Ortisei center and it took us about an hour.
The walk was pleasant for the first part but the last became quite steep. The view though is breathtaking.

Loved the small garden next to the church with many beautiful flower. In the background you can see the rocks of the Dolomites. Just perfect. There is a wooden sign, where you can make the best picture, but please don't use it. Everybody already made that picture. Use your creativity instead ;)

In a quite sunny day - mid-morning - at the end of July, I had a nice and pleasant walk from Ortisei to San Giacomo - St. Jacob church. This enchanted place is a sort of rendez-vous point in between Ortisei and Santa Cristina (other people came also from the Santa Cristina side by bike). The church, the small graveyard, the green area all around and the gorgeous view are magic and I have been a sort of transfixed by the beauty and the peace. The very well-maintained church with interesting and colourful paintings worthwhile for sure a visit. I would love repeating this stop every year – to grasp the good vibes, contemplate, breath plentifully and be part of the magic picture.

This beautiful old church is set amongst the woods on the side of the valley, with views towards the mountains. Approach along the well-maintained footpath from Santa Cristina, along which boards tell the story of San Giacomo, with illustrations by local schoolchildren.

Lovely church beautifully situated. We took a bus up and walked back into town. Would be a long hike up.

Located outside main villages, but absolutely worth to see the chapel.
You can drive there from Ortisei or walk.
There is a nice view on Dolomites.
There is also a small cemetery next to the chapel.
Very quite place for contemplation if you need it or nice walk.

Nestled neatly within the folds of gently folding hills, is a this quaint little church. Still nicely maintained but could do with a little more TLC.
