The cathedral was rebuilt in neoclassical style in the mid-1800s by Alessandro Antonelli, demolishing the previous Romanesque basilica. On the sides the building is bordered by a colonnade. The entrance is located under a pronaos, consisting of four imposing fluted columns, adorned with Corinthian capitals. The interior is divided into three naves by powerful columns in stucco marbled yellow-ochre. Among the most significant paintings we find the Marriage of Saint Catherine by Gaudenzio Ferrari, as well as works by Bernardino Lanino and Callisto Piazza.

Beautiful and elegant Neo-Classical cathedral right in the middle of the city. Though there has been a church in this location for over 16 centuries, most of the building dates to the 19th century.
Columns on the square, columns all around the parvis, columns supporting the church porch and imposing ochre-coloured columns inside.
The interior is exactly what you would expect from an Italian cathedral, with paintings, frescos, chandeliers, saints and madonnas everywhere.
The baptistery, the bell tower and the peaceful cloister and the back are part of the older original structures.
Absolutely worth a visit!

The first cathedral was built in the 5th century, where the Roman Temple of Jupiter stood. Then between total and partial demolitions, embellishments followed until the present solution was reached.
The last major intervention took place in the mid-1800s, with the contribution of Alessandro Antonelli who designed the altar.
Rich in works preserved over the centuries.
Great impression, with a splendid churchyard.

Even though it has been remodeled over and over again over the centuries, it is Antonelli who was responsible for the last and most significant renovation.
He was initially entrusted only with the project for the reconstruction of the quadriportico, however he presented one which also included the reconstruction of the entire cathedral. The project was approved the following year but remains to all intents and purposes unfinished: the transept and the choir were in fact not built.
This failure to achieve this is easily observable from the adjacent cloister by looking up at the back of the cathedral.
To access the cloister, if the Vicolo canonica gate is closed, pass the internal side car park that runs alongside the cathedral and continue straight. Both the cloister and the view of the cathedral are really interesting.
As for the interior of the Cathedral, the terrifying use of brownish shiny stucco that simulates marble visually appears very unpleasant. It's a shame because in my humble opinion it detracts from its architecture and decorations.
The quadriportico that runs along the square is spectacular

Beautiful, secluded, magnificent columns and wooden carved door with angels. Worth while going through the canonica too

This cathedral sits right on the oddly shaped main square of Novara. The colonnades on the outside are quite lovely and the facade makes for a harmonious whole. The interior has interesting tombs, altar, etc. You won't go running home extolling it's virtues, but it is a lovely place to visit.

Full of gorgeous paintings, with the neoclassical style fringed by some still visible older structure remaining. As everything seems to be in Novara, understatedly beautiful.

Don’t be fooled by the simple exterior, this is a beautiful cathedral. The interior contains beautifully painted barrel vaulted ceilings, inlaid marble floors, and fluted columns painted to look like marble.

Side chapels contain beautiful altars with lovely statues.

It's a beautiful place and it was under renovation. Very unique paintings and statues.
It's still in dally use by the local residents of Novara.

Huge cathedral, couldn't get far enough away to get a proper photo of it. Very ornate paintings and statues inside, but outside is looking a bit delicate.
