Visit to ancient times

This museum offers glimpses of the pre-roman history of this area. Some lovely art. Alessandro was a great English speaking guide. Our teenaged grandchildren enjoyed it.

The museum is on the main square of Norcia and housed on a 500 years old imposing fortified palace which was the residence of the governors of the pope. There is not that much on the museum, which has a lot of space available. An eclectic and unusual combination of beautiful collections of Etruscan, Greek and Roman art and artifacts... More

When in Norcia do visit the Castellina museum and do ask the staff to also show you the Criptoportico. The museum contains many very early artefacts and was once the seat of pontifical power in Norcia. Perhaps because of low popularity of the Papal representative in Norcia at the time, the Castellina was well fortified and comes with an underground... More

Built as an "accommodation" for the Pope in the 15th century, then turned into a prison it now houses new art. Interesting are the escape tunnel, a tribute to those area soldiers lost in WWI and an excavated Roman skeleton 4BC. Really not much for your 5 €!

Our tour group had a guide who spoke English, but quickly and with a very heavy accent. There were several things that stood out on the tour. First, the building is beautiful and worth seeing in its own right. Second, they had an exhibit about the town during WWI and WWII which had town records and other memorabilia in it.... More

We had not planned to visit this museum but are very pleased we did. We were charged a small admittance fee and this included an introduction by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide whose explanations of the building and the region filled in centuries of background and the surprising importance and rich history of what is today a relatively sleepy... I was in Norcia with a guide who took me to to this museum. For a small museum in a small town it has a surprisingly good collection, a lot of which was donated by a local man. The building itself is also very interesting with underground passages to explore. The entry price is also very reasonable. So when you... More

The curator speaks English and is quite happy to explain the many treasures of the museum. Lots of Etruscan and Roman stuff. Very interesting building.

A nice museum. Welcomed by the friendly staff we spent an hour or so touring around the palazzo and museum. I don't really mind but you should be warned that as of the time we were there the place had an unfinished feeling. A project in progress. But don't let that put you off if you are in Norcia, it's... I wasn't planning to enter the museum, but next to the entrance I was approached by a guide called Giorgia. Her knowledge of the local history and heritage is vast, her stories are truly captivating, and her English is excellent. If you visit the museum, or even just the town, seek her!
