About
The Ercolani family will host you by offering you a guided tour along the monumental path of the fifteenth century, in the historic center of Montepulciano, and will reveal its treasure that is not seen, but is there: the Underground City. Under the foundations of the main noble palaces of Montepulciano with its passages, cool passages, wells, hidden crypts, Etruscan areas and the descents in stone stairs. Within the historical route you will also find our aging cellar of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G. and Vin santo D.O.C. Riserva that mature in oak barrels of various sizes, shapes and characteristic toasting of the wood. At the end of the tour you will be involved in a spectacular tasting of various wines of own production, including the Nobile di Montepulciano, accompanied by tastings of pecorino di Pienza, cured meats and other local products. The experience described above is totally free, and if you purchase the wines, you can have the FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.

Excellent Wine Tasting and Underground Tour Experience
My wife and I took the free underground tour with Erica followed up by a very detailed wine tasting. Erica was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the building and the wine making process. Erica speaks fluent English and was so nice and passionate about wine. This was one of the highlights of our week long trip to Italy. The quality of the wine and Erica’s knowledge were both outstanding.!

    Amazing experience! Must visit!
We were travelling in the street, we saw the shop and came inside. Sarah greeted us so nicely, and offered to take us on a tour on the underground city, it was a beautiful tour and her explanations were thorough and amazing. Later she took us to the wine tasting they make there, including cheese and salami. Everything was tasty and we had to buy cheese and wine because it was so good!! Thank you Sarah for an amazing experience it made our day! Will recommend to anyone going there!

Wonderful Tour, Excellent Wine and Food
We loved our tour with Melanie! Our tour started with exploring their underground winery, while learning about the history and wine making process. We met and saw multiple members of the Ercolani family throughout our tour, showing how family oriented the business is. The wines were excellent! We also had the opportunity to try cheeses, meats and truffle. We ultimately shipped home 2 cases of wine along with other foods. Melanie was knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make our experience the most enjoyable! Would highly recommend!

    Best experience in Tuscany
An amazing experience that we would highly recommend. We started with a fascinating underground city tour, followed by a fantastic wine tasting of some of the region’s best wines and a platter with some delicious local produce. Our guide Melanie was phenomenal, from her understanding of the winemaking process to her incredible knowledge of the wines. Honestly an experience not to be missed.

    Perfect, uncomplicated wine experience
Rolling in off the street you can wander the cellars alone or with a free tour, emerging to enjoy a generous tasting. Our ad hoc visit was ideal, with a very friendly and knowledgeable host taking us through the full set of wines and years. Wine was purchased at a good price and all else was free. Top venue in the stunning montepulciano.

    A great wine tasting experience
A great place to visit. The tour in the cellars was very impressive, out guide Erica, told us a lot of interesting stories about the production process, the history of the place, always willing to answer never ending questions from the visitors. After the tour we were served twelve different wines and a number of various Tuscan snacks, such various types of cheese, olive oils, truffle paste etc. That was a great tasting experience. You can miss it when in Montepulciano. And shout out to Erica, the best guide in the Montepulciano cellars!

    Winery tour and tasting
We booked a tour as part of an extended tour of Italy with 40 members of our family. We have been on several winery tours in the past, but this was one of the best. Melanie was our guide and she was awesome! The tour was informative and fun for our group, who ranged in age from 13 to 74. The tasting was awesome, and the "light" lunch that we had was amazing, and more than we could finish. We all bought wine, and assorted food items from the shop. Everything arrived promptly ad was very well packed. Thanks again to Melanie and the Ercolani family for making this a great memory for our group!

    Winery tour with wine tasting
The tour and tasting were a great experience! Our guide Anna did a phenomenal job. We would like to say thanks for great hospitality and sharing the knowledge about producing the wine :) As others did not show up, we've got a private tour :) We do recommend to visit Ercolani Wineshop if you are in Montepulciano!

Really impressed, completely FREE wine caves to explore. Very interesting to see how the wine is made, with some information boards about. We were expecting a tourist trap with this situated on the main street, but that it was not. After the caves, we did some wine tasting, getting to try four different reds, though we probably could have tried more if we wanted. We had only set out to buy one bottle, and we did not feel pressured to purchase huge quantities or anything like that. We loved the bottle we purchased and left very happy!

This is an amazing place. We always bring our friends and guets here. We did so yesterday (7th of may 2022) and opted for a free tour and wine testing experience. I have done tour before but i really wanted our guests to enjoy it. Erica was doing a tour and she couldnt have done a better job. She was very interesting , thorough and funny. Her knowledge and understanding was supperb. The wine testing experience was better than some payed ones we have been on. Please don't start changing for this as it setts you up miles over everyone else. I can truly say its been a highlight for our friends . And we definitely will continue bringing every guest/friend here and recommend it to everyone we speak to.

Amongst the many different wine tastings in Montepulciano, it can be a bit overwhelming to pick one. I would say that with Ercolani, we made the right choice.

Having been to many different wine tastings in both the US and Europe, we found Alyssa (our guide) very knowledgeable and able to articulate the subtle differences between the various wines made by the Ercolani Winery.

After the complimentary tour and wine tasting, do not forget to take advantage of their on-site deals if planning to buy in bulk. We will be purchasing regularly from Ercolani.

Anna gave a brief tour of the wine making process and showed us the amazing cellars under the city before describing and pouring eight different wines for us. The pairings with food were generous and highlighted the quality of the wines. I was surprised that I preferred the Super Tuscan to the Montepulciano wine but having the comparisons was very educational. Anna did a great job explaining the differences.

If you visit Montepulciano, you *MUST* visit Ercolani. We took a personalized tour of the Ercolani winery. It was great. The underground cellar that you go through, seeing the history, the artifacts, seeing the wine being made. We loved everything we tasting and was so impressed with the owner we ordered a case to be shipped to NC, USA. We can't wait to go back!!

Visited with friends who live locally make this place a regular stop on their tour of the region when sharing the love of the area.
To say that they were thrilled by this particular visit would be an understatement. Erica was a joy; friendly, knowledgeable and generous. No pressure sales resulting in an initial small purchase and follow up larger order, wish other businesses would follow her lead.
Felt very warm and familial, will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend.

Coming from Australia, would be considered unusual to visit a winery and not see the grapes. This winery is deep in the old town and is a cellar with barrels stored with a kitchen and tasting. Have a look at the barrels for no cost. There is tasting for no cost as long as you intend to buy wine or glasses of wine from the restaurant. Will be hard to leave without doing either.

The cellar door staff was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable and understanding.

Highly recommend this to anyone in Tuscany.
