About
Gattavecchi Winery, known as Cantina Gattavecchi, is the cellar in the town centre -the vinyard is at 20 minutes distance - of an old wine making family, la famiglia Gattavecchi. Here we offer guided tours and tastings of the wines and local products as cheeses and other specialties. It is also a family restaurant! You will discover La Cucina di Lilian, in the charming refectory of the old Monastery of Santa Maria dei Servi (XIII Century), that proposes wonderful traditional dishes made by Lilian Gattavecchi paired with the family wines. Cooking classes on request.

The wine is amazing, the food is amazing, and the hospitality of the owner Jonathan, his wife and daughter Maria is top notch! I recommend this be your first stop in Montepulciano and be prepared to ship wine home because it’s fantastic!

Beatiful place but...
Sep 2020 • Couples
On a rainy day we were looking for a place to taste some local wine and have some good lunch.

This place is a lovely restaurant/ceilar with a big dinner room and a tiny terrace close to the the mediaval hill.

The service is not very warm and joyful but okay. The way to serve was kind of clunky.

The food was good but nothing amazing or surprising.
We ordered the 3 degustation glasses of wine for 20€ as it’s quite a big thing there. It’s a matter of taste of course but I’m a wine amateur, know well French wines and in my opinion it was pretty dissapointing. It was okay but I think this is way overrated.

At the end of the day it’s expensive for what you get. You can swing by but definitely not a place to be.

A Magical afternoon in Montepulciano
Jul 2020 • Friends
An absolute must if you are looking to visit a winery whilst in Montepulciano. We booked a table for lunch and we were absolutely blown away. The food was delicious and locally sourced, the wine was exceptional and the atmosphere stunning. There was a live band playing throughout lunch which created the perfect experience. To top it off the owner, who was super friendly, welcomed us in for a wine tasting after lunch. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
Book in advance if you can, we were lucky that there was availability due to the pandemic.

Great wine and location
Aug 2019
We came as a group of 8 for a Vino Nobile tasting luncheon and were not let down! Great food and complimentary (to the food, not free)wine along with a great view of the valley below, since the Winery is on the outskirts of the old town. Highly recommend. Have them show you the wine cellar!

LIttle slice of heaven
Sep 2019
After a long day of visiting hill towns we ended our day in Montepulciano on The Terrace of the Cantina. Great bottle of their Nobile for a great price. We werent' hungry but owner said 'no you must have some tagliere to go with your wine!! You need the salt from the meat'. He proceeded to slice prosciutto of a leg of pork -- OMG amazing overlooking the Tuscan hills while we had our appertivo. we could have sat another hour undisturbed, but had to drive back to Orvieto and dinner (Tuscany Divine in Chiusi - check it out). We will be back to enjoy this little slice of heaven...

Great food, super views, wonderful wines
Sep 2019
I'd booked us a table for lunch here and I am so glad that I did - firstly because they were turning people away all the time who had no booking, secondly because we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the wines. We, and our dog, were made welcome and it was great to sit under the terrace on a sunny day in September. The pasta is made with wine so already a winner and my duck sauce (you can choose your sauce and your pasta type) was superb. I chose a wine tasting of 3 wines and my husband just ordered two different wines by the glass so in all we got to taste 5 wines. We enjoyed them and bought some wines to bring home with us.

A perfect food and wine tasting with the finishing tasting in the cellar! Perfection!
Sep 2019
Our first day in Val d'orcia, the 4 of us drove directly to Cantina Gattavecchi Winery. What a wonderful experience. The food and wine pairings were fabulous. It was fun to hear about the family winery and meet everyone. We loved the wines, loved the food and loved the family. The last tasting of wine and dessert we had in the cellar which was a great atmosphere too. This was truly a great experience and I highly recommend to everyone. Some of the wines are still young and great for laying down for a few years so if you are interested, ask for an older vintage to buy and take with you. We bought a 2007 Vino Nobile and opened it a few days later while in the Dolomiti and yum yum was it delicious!

Picturesque, Delicious and Delightful
Sep 2019
This Cantina was a delightful end to a wonderful trip through Tuscany. We tried one of the set menus which included a sumptious array of Tuscan food full of flavour and matched with sensational wines. We will certainly visit again. This Cantina was located in a picturesque spot overlooking lovely views. The staff were fabulous, sweet, knowledgeable and a pleasure to meet. Try this Cantina for yourself.

One of the older wineries and they are in town. Take a walk in the cellar. Dinner with a view of the sunset. Fantastic and romantic.
