Went on the Funicolare to visit old Montacatini. Really good trip. I felt like i was in a scene from "Little House on the Prairie". Old style carriage with great safety. Worth doing when in Montacatini.

This funicular is one of the oldest I have encountered, and I was surprised to find that it is still using antique carriages. Luxurious it isn't, but a lovely bit of working history it certainly is, with views of the town and plain opening out as you rise.

We took the funicolare to Montecatini Alto in the evening and watched the sunset over the town. It was gorgeous.

This is a very short ride in beautiful scenery through olive groves. When you reach the top, there is a great town piazza with interesting shops and wonderful restaurants.

Using the cable car (once every hour) you reach a charming little old town, with a splendid view of modern Montecatini. Restaurants serve typical, delicious tuscan food.

The funicolare runs regularly throughout the day with a break over the lunch period. The views are good (best seen from the outside but everyone dashes for that space). It can get rather crowded but it is only a few minutes. Cost 7 euros return. Montecatini Alto is a lovely place to wander around and there are good restaurants and... More

I stood on the outside for a surround view, great for photographers. €7 for the trip to Montecatini Alto, lovely quaint village up on a hill. Great cafes, restaurants and churches. Fab views

The views were great at dusk, and the little village on the top of the mountain was charming, with exceptionally good restaurants.
