The clock tower is one of the few historic structures left in Mestre and was part of a 14th century defense structure. Once there were 8 or possibly even 11 towers. This surviving tower is located at the northern end of piazza Ferretto. Though the original purpose was military, it served as a clock tower since 1573. The clock mechanism was upgraded throughout the ages.

Great square filled with locals, either walking their children, dogs or meeting friends.
Quite a few little restaurants/cafes surround the square. There is also an arcade filled with shops off the square.

The square is huge & spectacular, with amazing Christmas lights still on display when we visited in Jan. the clock tower has a little museum under the portico which is worth a look. Make sure to go in both daytime & nighttime.

Part of the Piazza Ferretto, the clock tower is a suitable landmark to meet friends for lunch.

You have to book in advance - we did it on-line - but I think you can book at the Museo Correr in St Mark's Square. We were the only ones on our partivular tour so very lucky. Really interesting history told to us by an excellent guide. Stunning views from the top of the tower. Not to be missed!

The Piazza was great with very friendly restaurants frequented by the local people. A good atmosphere especially at Mc Onor.s!
