The Church sits essentially at the top of the mountain (624 meters) by the same name above Maratea and it is quite a spectacular place along with the 21.2 meter high statue of Jesus Christ. The church dates back to the early 17th century and is seen as the leading church for the area and a very demanding walk to get to a service each Sunday.I t was under renovation and was not open, but for locations it is the best you might find.

If you're visiting the statue of Christ then the basica is worth a visit. It is modestly decorated in comparison to other religious buildings we have come across and won't offer much more than ten minutes close scrutiny even with its marbled and iconography. Nevertheless it served as an interesting little addition to our statue quest so, if churches are your thing, check it out.

The basilica is a few minutes walking distance from the statue of Christ the Redeemer. It's history goes beck to the seventh century. and has been extended several times over the centuries. It houses numerous pices of work of arts, such as frescos, statues and paintings. Its a must when one is staying Maratea.

Not overwhelmingly pretty but as its situated near the Redeemer its worth a look . One of Four churches that Maratea is famous for apparently and worth a look . Great location and backdrop and a part of the experience in all but not worth the visit as a standalone

It seems that most other reviews are of the site, the statue and the bars, not the church itself. Therefore I would like to rate the church only: It is very very unimpressive! The walls are painted simply white, there are neither frescos nor the usual charm of roman churches. It's just a quite boring church on a mountain.

Some comments on the other points expressed in other reviews:
You have to pay 3€/h for the parking which I find too high. Coming from a tourist country myself, I am used to pay for parking but at home it is usually 4-5€ a day or if they have hourly rates, max.2€/h.

You are not forced to take the bus from the parking to the top. It's really not far to walk and if you don't mind the sun and a little heat, it's the better option.

If this church was on a roadside or middle of an average Itallian town I doubt it would rate much of a write up. It is, however, on top of a hill overlooked by the
Statua del Cristo Redentore di Maratea and therefore has attracted some excellent reviews.

As a church it's ok - nothing shoddy but nothing extraordinary either. I doubt anyone comes up here for the church - they kind of notice it when they have visited the statue. If you have made the effort to come up the hill then its worth having a look inside, its a nice 5 min wander around a nice, average, church.

This unassuming little church sits at the top of the mountain over looking the commune de Maratea. Watching over the Church and all the local villages is a Huge 100ft plus statue of Jesus. It is totally awe inspiring and calm. A must see if visiting the area

If you are going up to this location just to see the Church, try and check before you go to avoid being disappointed if it is not open. It is a great little church with the relic of St. Biaggio (St. Basil), the patron saint of throats. If you do happen to take a chance and go here, your time will not be wasted if the church is closed. The views are spectacular, there is a decent coffee shop, and it is very beautiful and peaceful,
