We recently married in Malcesine at the Castello Scaligero, my main purpose of this review is to acknowledge our amazing wedding planner Pam Barrick, whom without her enthusiasm and passion for her job we would not have had the fairytale wedding we wanted. Pam’s local knowledge and relationships with all the local people is beautiful to see, a real sense of community, Pam speaks fluent Italian and is well known all over Malcesine and beyond. Pam’s attention to detail is exquisite, our wedding day could not have been more perfect. The views from the castle are out of this world, not only do you get to marry your best friend but you get to do it surrounded by all the beauty lake Garda has to offer. After the ceremony we had our photos done by the very talented Francesco, he captured every emotion and excitement of the day.

Even though you are thousands of miles away from Italy, you are very much in control of every stage of the planning process, every legal requirements are explained and straight forward and Pam will guide you if you are ever unsure.

At no point were we under any obligation or pressure to have any extras, we just choose what suited our budget and our theme and it worked incredibly well.

I would high recommend the boat trip as it was an added extra that all our gusts enjoyed.

We had our meal/evening reception at Lido Sopri, which I will write a separate review but all I will say is it was more than we ever expected, it just rounded our perfect day off beautifully.

What more can I say except if you are reading this and wanting a wedding day that is exactly what you have pictured in your head then absolutely book with Pam at romantic weddings on lake Garda.

We visited Malcesine Castle (Scaligero-di-malcesine) whilst visiting Lake Gara. We decided to get the ferry from Riva and visit Malcesine for the day.

Entrance fee is 6 Euros but it is a Beautiful Castle & Museum to walk around, lots of interesting things to look at, make sure to walk right to the top of the castle where you get spectacular views overlooking the town.

You are also able to hire the grounds for weddings!

We did not expect much from this castle but it was surprisingly impressive.
OK, a lot of it is a shell and only a small area has exhibits in it, but you can walk around much of the battlements getting good views over land and water - best of all is climbing up a good easy staircase to the top of the tower, from where the views are excellent.
It does get busy at times because the town is such a popular tourist attraction but it is still well worth a visit.

What a great castle. Lovely walk through the back streets to get there and what a little gem. They have some lovely exhibitions in there, so interesting and well done, a real pleasure to walk round. Be aware that due to Covid 19 the tower is currently closed but don't let this put you off, definitely worth a visit.

The castle has several different interesting exhibitions. Very informative about lake Garda natural habitat and history. Beautiful view over the lake. Nice display with family pictures from the past. Everybody can find something for himself.

This castle is beautiful. There’s plenty of viewing platforms, to admire the beautiful lake and mountains.
There’s a lot of steps and very hilly, so make sure you wear suitable shoes.
This is also a very popular place for weddings as we discovered, and we were lucky enough to see one.

Castillo Scaligero is situated on a rocky outcrop that looks over Lake Garda which offers stunning views. The castle is clearly signposted wherever you are in Malcesine, and is well worth a visit.
Once you enter the courtyard to your left are good public rest rooms,a small gift shop and the entrance to a fascinating interactive exhibition which describes flora and fauna of the region, how the lake was formed and the social and political history of the Lake Garda region.I saw many children who were obviously enjoying it like moths drawn to a flame.Exhibition descriptions are multi lingual and there is enough to keep an adult occupied for an hour or two.
The gardens are full of modern art sculptures and very beautiful, and as you go further up into the castle there is a permanent Goethe memorial exhibition which describes the great man's love of the region,an exhibition of artifacts from a great sailing ship which was purposely sunk to prevent the Venetians from gaining a grip on the area circa the 15th century, and while we were there we saw an art exhibition of genuine Warhol prints.
The clock tower offers great views across the lake towards Limone,Torbole and Riva del Garda. The castle also offers a wedding service and the Irish people we met who used this service were obviously delighted with the treatment they recieved-you understand why the castle is so popular with wedding parties.
The entrance fee is very reasonable and I loved the castle, but I suggest you also keep an eye out for the performances in the theatre behind the castle-the theatre nestles in a natural basin in the rock and sits I estimate about 400 people. It is very accessible to wheel chair users (unlike the castle-but when that was built these issues were not a consideration I think!).
My wife and I enjoyed a superb evening of opera with music by Verdi,Puccini and others which will remain within our memories forever-beautiful,touching and in places very funny!

Go on-if you visit Malcesine you got to go there! You just have to!

We got married here and it was definitely the most amazing day of our lives. Who could have thought that such an amazing place is only 3 hours away from the north west of England. We will definitely be visiting again
