Germany's first theme park, is in the countryside just outside Stuttgart....

Germany's first theme park, is in the countryside just outside Stuttgart. Erlebnispark Tripsdrill opened back in 1929. Today, there are 100 attractions for all ages, includingthe new catapult roller coaster "Karacho" which accelerates its vehicles to 100 km/h in a mere 1.6 second. Over time, the park was extended to link up more and more with nature, for this is the major appeal of Tripsdrill. Thus today, more than 100 original attractions are laid out over 77 hectares - including the roller coaster "Mammut", one of the few in Germany of wooden construction, with a height of 30 metres, and the new catapult roller coaster "Karacho" which accelerates its vehicles to 100 km/h in a mere 1.6 seconds. Yet little ones also obtain good value for money in Tripsdrill, as many of the attractions are specially conceived with the younger visitor in mind, for example the new indoor playground "Gaudi-Viertel" in the Village Street. The theme park's slogan is "Schwaben [Swabia] anno 1880". All the attractions are centred on this theme and evoke Swabia's tradition and history. In this respect, Tripsdrill's approach is generally tongue-in-cheek rather than serious - but not without valuable snippets of information for anyone interested: about wine-making - "from the vine to the glass", the Swabian housewife - "1850 wash-house", handicraft and many other curiosities. And, since Tripsdrill's origins lie in gastronomy, a great deal of attention is paid to the quality of the meals. The "Gasthaus zur Altweibermühle" waiter-service restaurant on site is reputed for its excellent regional cuisine and game specialties - entirely home-made to grand-mother's original recipe. In the neighbouring wildlife park (Wildparadies), Arctic wolves, bears and numerous wild animals native to Europe await visitors. It is possible to see them up close on a feeding tour with the game warden. Bald eagles, vultures and owls also feature among the residents of the wildlife park. The falconry proposes a walking tour or a flight demonstration in the afternoon. In open-air enclosures, visitors can approach several species of deer and even feed them. For those seeking to experience nature with all their senses, there are the forest adventure path (Walderlebnis-Pfad), barefoot path (Barfuß-Pfad) and adventure playground (Abenteuerspielplatz) to have a good romp. With its original accommodation facilities, Tripsdrill enables to extend this adventure amidst pure nature. In the nature resort, located in front of the wildlife park, there are comfortable shepherds' wagons, and tree houses hidden in the forest. The shepherds' wagons can accommodate up to five people. Each one offers a small sitting area with flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, washing facilities and heating. Showers and WCs are available in a modern central sanitation block. The tree-houses for 2-4 and 5-6 people are comfortably equipped, each with its own sanitation, a sink, a refrigerator and a coffee machine, as well as a living room with TV. From the veranda, it is possible to hear the wolves howling in the evening - an exhilarating experience!

Tripsdrill is Germany's oldest and family friendliest theme park. Many of the rides are suitable for little kids accompanied by an adult. Once they are three or four there are several rides they can ride by themselves and more exciting ones like the Tausendfuessler-Rollercoaster. Out gour year old's favourite, Ticket prices are fair, so are prices for food and beverages,... More

Great, clean, fair prices.... a lot of things to do. Our son an his friends (8y-14y) loved it. You find rides for every age group! They are constantly expanding the park. Good local food all over the park.

Having visited Heide Park, Efteling, and Toverland in the past year, I have experienced some of the best Theme Parks in Europe. The park has over 100 attractions although in my opinion it would be most enjoyed by children between 4 and 8 years old and particularly those over 1.20m tall. There is a good selection of water and spinning... More

I grew up in southern Germany and Tripsdrill was my favourite 45 years ago and still is - now with my own kids. Very family oriented, fair priced, top maintained and very clean facilities. Rides for every age and thrill level. It will be a day well spend with the family. Do NOT miss the Tierpark (on day 2 maybe?)... More

It's a beautiful park where you can go especially children aged 5-10. We were there yesterday. We had great time and enjoyed all the rides. Although it was a Sunday, it wasn't over crowded. Wr didn't have to wait at all for most of the rides but just some of them which was never over 15 min. You better bring... More

I didn't know what to expect, but we were very impressed. Very clean. Food and drinks were priced reasonably. Went on a sunny Saturday and lines were minimal. So many rides for younger children that adults can enjoy too! The park is beautiful! I appreciated that it was not gimmicky and l displayed German heritage. Your ticket price includes a... More

This place is around an hour from Stuttgart airport. We stayed next door in the nature resort as a young couple with no children. Parking is free. Entrance without staying in the nature resort is around 30E. The park is immaculately clean and the food is reasonably priced. The rides are mostly for kids however, Karacho and Mammut are good... We stayed at the Nature Resort and walked to the Theme Park. You get a nice discount if you stay there. The park was perfect with great gardens and rides.

A mix of high class rollercoasters, gentler children's rides and a nature park - all in the beautiful setting of the German countryside. Make sure to visit the onsite wine museum - there is wine tasting available down in the basement!
