I went on an afternoon guided tour of Lecce provided by the iLecce Tourist information. The tour was very interesting, a lot information and background on the history of the city, but it still seemed light, and was very easy to follow. In a little bit more than 2 hours we made around 5-6 stops, so it wasnt the type of tour where you make 20 stops and only hear a 1-minute explanation for each. It was more like reading a very good book, where you get more depth for each chapter and it's a breeze to read. Well done, I recommend it

We went in the tourist office to request a map and ended up with a guided tour which was very well prepared and very informative. We recommend the guide as it gives a very good explanation to the city and also access to the underground of Lecce's caste. Do not buy the map as you can get it for free from the various shops on the mainstreet and as you don't really need it if you buy the guide's services ;)

This is a small office but very convenient in one of the main squares. There are free maps available, of course, but the staff could have had more ideas of things that were must see in a limited visit time.

Location & signage implies a tourist information office but this place just sells their own tours
In early October the list of tours was very short & none included guides, so just very expensive minibuses ( vans in their words) taking you to locations. Drivers on the 2 tours we went on did not even point people in the direction of the main attractions from where they parked, just gave a return time.
Late start & extensive extra detour to collect people on our Mathera trip was not compensated for by later finish, resulting in the expected 4 hours in Mathera being 2 hours 40mins., completely spoiling our plans & ability to see a number of sites there

Besides selling a few items and steering folks gently toward consideration of a few particular pay site tour options (with no pressure to engage), the Lecce tourist office has great maps, suggestions and formulas for how to attack a day in town or a week all around the region.

They are very patient, knowledgeable and supportive when assistance is requested. it's very difficult to imagine how a few folks did not have a positive experience in dealing with members of the staff here. Sometimes it takes two to tango. I'll leave it at that!

they sold me postcard stamps for the US for 2.50 Euro per stamp and told me to mail them only in their own yellow mail boxes. They said it's usually 5 days to the US. It has now been 30 days, and not one post card has arrived.
Both branches of the TI office provided for free only black and white maps, which were not adequate for navigating Lecce. Finally we found a wine store with free colored maps, which made it much easier.
I believe that Lecce deserves more from their TI if they are to become a major tourist city.

Located behind an impressive portico in the square next to the Roman ampitheatre. A good selection of brochures and maps in different languages though the staff seemed rather disengaged unless you were actively seeking to book a tour. Not the worst but certainly far from the standard of some of the excellent Tourist Information centres we have been in during our tours of Italy, and yes, we are fluent in the language!

This tour is more expensive through TripAdvisor than in the tourist office (60€ only).
Be aware that this is a cargo tour: The driver brings you from A to B and tells you in Italian in which direction to walk to find the center.
You should expect to be picked up 20 min late and be dropped off 1 hour before 6 p.m.
We haggled with him to extend our stay in Alberobello to 2 h, which is really worth to combine sightseeing with lunch.
In total a good Tour - good to combine these four cities!

We have booked two tours this week with Antonio through the tourist office. Both very enjoyable, and Antonio had a good sense of humour at getting us back on time and explaining with phone translation when we 4 aussies did not comprehend very much Italian.

Thanks Antonio, great driving!

I went to the tourist office in the Lecce castle today to obtain some city brochures and enquire about a city tour. The young lady in the tourist office indicated there were 1hr 45min tours in English costing 15 euro or 10 euro in Italian. For the tour to proceed they needed at least x6 people. I asked if there were any free city tours that had more certainty of proceeding. The young lady who was 20-25 said that no one in the world does free city tours and accused us of lying! One can see by our posts that we are experienced travelers who have visited many corners of the world. So I’d like to tell this young lady to grow up and learn some manners and perhaps go and travel the world before she comments on what she does not know. My second point relates to the fact that if Italy is in a financial crisis and one wanted to work and help their tourism wouldn’t you take one tourist and not wait for 6. And my third point, why is it 50% more expensive in English than Italian?

As a footnote to this article, it has been brought to my attention that there are free city tours of Lecce!
